Dodge this:

Photoref used.

Another exercise (hence the unoriginal pictures). I don't know when I'm done practicing this, or where to go next.

Those colours are good lel!

I'm new here and this isn't the perfect first post. It's very old and I have improved lots since I did it. Still I just had to post.

Now dodge THIS:

dawi-
the hand/gun looks great, kinda weird to see all those outlines though.. her chest/stomach looks someway wrong

uh oh!
lel: that's awesome use of colors you've got there. looks terrific.
a question if i may:
since u're using a reference, did u just pick your colors from the ref or you study the enviroment of the scene to pick them up?

anyway, like it a lot. can't wait to see your next.

Dawi: Thanks!
What a way to start, waited long for a matrix thread to show up? :-) I've been here a whole month, so I guess that makes me an oldtimer... -Welcome to the forum!
I also converted to surface painting after seeing Spooges fantastic forum art, so I say: loose the lines and enter the perceived 3rd dimension for real (else it's a nice picture, more true to the move actually).

Metz: Thanks! If I put more work into it, refining, I'd spot more errors and would overwork some areas to get it right, then I would have to refine everything to the same level. In the end it'd look photographic in the rendering, but probably skewed in some forms I missed.

I simply can't eyeball features into position good enough yet. I need a certain fault-tolerance (as given by the "big brush").
Also, the endless refining takes time and to me it is currently better to make more pictures, than just one pixel perfect copy.
It's all an excercise to me right now, and little real creativity is put into it (I just copy pictures, more or less, hoping to add some character through my style - whatever it is... don't know yet... and to learn how to see forms and shapes)

Doesn't anyone else feel like this?

sandhu: Thank you! I used the universal skin colour palette found at this page. I've used it once before, but I don't pick the colour much better now compared to when I used sliders.
(I didn't even bother to get a decent blue for the sky, I just picked the bluest skin colour, but that's just lazy :-)

(What not to do after receiving lots of praise.... show the photo reference :-)

[Edit: Correction, I've been registered for a month or so... but I've read the forum for a year, and saved you all from seeing my much more pathetic excercises]

Hey Dawi, do you have that pic on the website What is the matrix or one of it's links? because i sware I've seen it before, and i liked it then, so i like it now. That was one of my favorite sceens in the movie.

Lel, thats a good pic, just dont like that blury hand and gun, but if it's from a reference, i guess thats the way it is.

Metz - Thanks. The outlines were part of the concept. When I look back at this old pic now I see that they really look awful. Thanks for the crit anyway.

lel - No, no, no I didn't wait for the thread. When I finally had joined I looked through the topics and found this one about Trinity. But it was the line you wrote, "Dodge this", that made me think about this pic. That was the title I gave mine back at elfwood. About the outlines: that's not how I normally work, it was just a quick try at a different look from what I normally did at the time. This was my first comic style pic ever really. So I'm not that afraid in getting stuck in the outline-swamp(?). Anyway I'm happy to see that you think it's a good start.

SWANY - No, do they have fanart at whatisthematrix.com? I didn't know. The only place where you could have seen this is in my elfwood gallery so thats probably it. Glad you like it!

General confusion - That's great man! Looks almost photo realistic, I guess that was the look you were after. You really are skillful to do such art with a mouse. Trust me, I know how hard it is.
