Hi
This image is an experiment in simulating a microphotography image…

Does it look ‘real’ to you? If it does not, what would you change in order to make it look more like a photograph?

Thanks,

"I like it doggy style!" -- Henry David Thoreau

AHAHAHHAHHH!!!

Pretty funny!

Sorry pixelator...

Umm (wiping tear from eye)

The black snail's head on the left is more in focus than the light areas surrounding it. Usually, a lit area has sharper focus, both to the eye and the camera. The blown out highlights should be sharper than the dark antennae.

There is a dark fuzzy on the right center. he is flatter with softer edges- that's good.

Also, noise is in midtones, absent in dark and light areas.

Overall, just be careful about consistent focus or lack thereof.

I believe that depth of field in macrophotography is very limited, so...

Ew...had me fooled. Before I read what you said I was wondering "What's that a picture of?". Right.

Thank you for your feedback
worthless_meat_sack: These are excellent and valuable observations. Thanks!

Here is some info about this image…
The original (simple) idea was to draw a zoomed-in B&W creature. In the image below you can see the basic shape of the creature on the left and a more detailed version on the right…

I did not like the image so I have restored to an earlier saved version and added ‘blobs’ to cover most of the creature and continued to paint/stretch/pull…
the creature is still visible but barely recognizable

By adjusting material properties, depth of field, light configuration and more freehand 2.5D brush strokes, I have gotten the image below…

Final step was to add noise and the result is shown at the top of this thread.
It sounds like a long process but it actually was quick so I am likely to do one (or few ) more.

That's a painting? It looks so real!

How did you paint this kind of detail?
