A little vampire picture I whipped up today for the vampire thread on EK. Ref used. I'm pleased with how it looks so far, but there are a couple of things I want to tighten up I think. Anywho... picture picture:

Yowza! The eyes are hands-down the best thing about this; she's so close to being someone I know... minus the yellow, I mean. Skin looks perfect, too -- what was that girl's name in Bram Stoker's D? The one who he was feeding on the first half of the film? Mmf. I used to know a pistol of a girl named Jean back in high school. This is her with a gothic twist... BAM! That's what looks so familiar!

Not that you want or need to hear my critique, but I'd leave it -- perhaps play with the hair, if you must, but otherwise keep her clean. Creamy features, penetrating stare... Why don't you have more works like this featured on your site (or am I not looking hard enough)?

Brilliant work. You must be very rich.

Bee - Thanks so much! (and I only WISH I was rich)

Hurricane - *falls on the floor laughing* Oh my... that is definitely not the look I was going for. You think she looks 14? What kind of 14 year olds do you know? *tease*

This looks very good. Wonderful eyes. I know you're going to work on it more but I'd just like to suggest adding some reflected light on her upper lip. Now it looks a little flat compared to the rest of the face. Good work anyways.

.. you already know what I think of this.
It's sweet!!

the only thing for crit is that the shadows around the eyes and under the chin looks greish.. Maybe it would look better if you used a very pale blueish or purple tone for the shadows.

well, just a thought anyway..
seeya..

Not bad Beth. This has to be the best face I've ever seen you paint. I think with a little more work on the hair, that this could be one of your best portraits.

I have to go check this Vamp thread out.

Take it easy,
Malachi

Rowr, my type of girl! (I'm the only person I know who thinks pale is beautiful, alas) I think the lips are the best part of this piece, though I really love the hair too. Both are very expressive. She looks like she's about to break into a snear with the way her left nostril is flaring. Her left eye though looks like it is looking at a different point than her right eye, which is slightly disconcerting. The hair also really flattens out the piece the way it is hiding her form, especially her head. It is also a little ambiguous about where the light is coming from, as you've got highlights on her hair that makes it look like the light is coming from her left, yet you have that shadow from that loose hair there falling the opposite direction. The hot spots on the eyes and her lower lip seem to be working at cross-purposes too. Just my thoughts, still love the piece though, you always seem to turn out great work. I dare say actually that you've improved quite a bit since your original pieces I remember you first posting on this board all that long time ago.

Nice work Jeze,

The only problem I have with it is the hair. When the hair crosses over onto the skin, it looks as if it is tatooed to he chest intead of actually being hair. Try to add some depth to the hair and I think things will look much better. The rest of it looks great to me.

Thanks for posting.

Really cool pic Jezebel, maybe one of your best yets me thinks It's reminding me of something but I just can't figure out what.. but I like that. Like the stylised flat black for the hair too, kinda bromish. Maybe if you gave her eyes abit of a glowy aura, would make herlook a little more siren of the night scary lookin, but maybe that's a little cliched, really nice work anyways.

*looks at hurricane* what the helll drugs are u on man!? stop them whatever they are!

Jezebel I've been thinking about this lately and this is definately the time to say this..:
You impoved by LEAPS AND BOUNDS ! I remember your first posts on this forum (a self-portrait I beleive) and you came a loooong way ! Congratulation and keep up the great work ; your talent is very promising.

Just one little comment : be carefull with the symetry of the face / eyes / nostrils.
Weeeh !

Definitely agree with egerie. I remember all the earlier works you posted a month back, where you, like the rest of us, where getting the hang of brushing with the wacom.
Now this masterpiece appears! Da Vinci must be turning in his grave!

I only have a tiny amoeba-sized crit about this painting. The hi-light on her chin looks like it's pulled to the left a little too much. This could just be due to the lighting not facing straight at her. It could even be just an optical illusion

I like this a lot...
The color choices are complementary with each other and this picture has a seductive yet menacing feel to it. Looks like something Poe would write about...

Add some specularity to the hair so it isn't so flat, a few loose strands coming off of the clumps will add a degree of realism.

The chin is not so much off center as the lips are in relation to neither the nose or the chin. Luckily this is an easy fix and will improve the picture.

Her forehead is of yellow tones while the compostion of the picture is in reds and blues for the most part. To me the yellows do not fit, and I would change them to a red tone.

i like the feel you get when you look at this vampire.

i'd like to point out that the chin is off centre. you might want to fix that.

I really like the eyes and mouth, well done.

keep working on it, and it will turn out nicely.

Rhomb - Thanks for pointing that out. Looking at it now it seems so obvious. Silly me!

Dixter - Yeah you are probably right about that. I went with a gray color to sort of add to the pale "undead" factor, but the blue or purple would have the same effect but give it more kick. Thanks.

Malachi Maloney - Yeah, the hair is the major element I was going to tweak with this.

maceface - Thanks ^_^

Gothic Gerbil - Appreciate you taking the time to write that critique. And I REALLY appreciate you saying I've improved. That always makes me grin from ear to ear to hear that.

Snorkles - I wish I could help you out Maybe there is a server close to your place that is down and it's preventing you from getting to a lot of websites?

Tarandon - Yeah I can see what you mean. I think it especially does this on the left side. I wanted to try and keep the hair fairly simple, but maybe I went too far, haha

Cos - I took your suggestion about the glowy eyes and applied it to my newest vampire girl. I think I prefer the calm, subtle (subtle??) yellow eyes with this girl. *grin* Thank you!

Quasar - Thanks!

Anthony J - Bleh. I hadn't noticed that before but I see it now. I'm a doofus. :]

jcFIG - A trance? *checks to see if anyone is looking and takes all of jcFIG's money* Oh yes.. trance... *coughs and runs away*

Metz - I've always thought Nicole Kidman was one of the most beautiful and statuesque people. Maybe that came out a little bit in this picture. *smile*

egerie - Yeah, it was a self portrait. *giggles* This is the very first picture I posted on Sijun (if I remember right). Nasty isn't it?

Highfive - *blushes* You flatter me WAY too much. Thank you though. :] I'll look into that chin highlight!

Futura - Thanks for the crit! I appreciate it.

High Five: That surprisingly is not a Darwin award. I found it in the English translation of a Chinese newspaper from 1981 when I went to a party in an abandoned warehouse in China Town (not in 81, 99 actually). I saw it before I got too loaded and pocketed it, the next day I reached in my pocket and I found the clipping and kept it... A very convulated tale.
