Ohmygosh that is wicked. You consider this to be quick dude?! How long did it actually take?

I'm assuming that this is the background you are using in your tutorial?

I think if you slapped some rendering on the figure, the piece would be far more effective. Lighting each one of those surfaces would certainly take quite a bit of time, but I think the piece would benefit greatly from at least some effort being made to distinguish all that lush detail.

Fantastic background, though. Really inventive and executed well with the color choice of the sky and the lighting of the spires. It's rare that we see a background that contributes to the composition of the piece so fully, as well.

I can't speak for Eric, but I'd imagine that the figure is not going to remain as a black silhouette. I think he just did that to get a sense of composition. :P
