I like the shading of the head a lot.
That character would probably look good printed on a shirt without the bg.

ya, the background was bothering me a bit... It was pretty much an afterthought, and the style didn't really match that of the guy.

went to have a look at him wthout it and decided to take it out...

His face is absolutely wonderful. It looks like you spent a lot of time and effort on it.

I just wish you had put the same time and effort in to the rest of the image. The head and body don't even look like they belong together. The body looks very 2D.

i think it would look cooler if the hands had the same texture as the stem on the head

I like the way the head was done. The eye is nice. The texture/filter on the shirt worked out nicely.
