you might want to explore using more colors in your paintings. i'm not going to pretend i know what im doing/talking about, but more color variation in some areas could be cool. |

You have quite an unusual style, but it's very effective. Good likeness on this one too.

I think it's extremely good work but it could use some contrast. and color variations. this is just my opinion but maybe the style is too 'tight'.
anyway, dont get me wrong 'cos I _do_ like it ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Photo-realistic,. great style.. and a hundred times better than anythin i've been able to paint. with this stated here are some comments,..
the main thing i would do to it would be soften the area between her nose and left eye and the area at the bottom of her neck to smooth out the skin and give her a softer younger feel to the picture,..
another thing would be to make a layer with just the back ground, run a gaussian blur over it and just overlay it, to seperate her a little more from the background.
but this is all just personal preference..

wow, very nice indeed. Jeez, now I've gotta start working harder...Love the style of the piece.
Looking at the reference photo, and the painting, the only thing I have even a slight problem with is the curve of hair in 'front' of her neck, it looks sort of 'nest-like'. Other than that, as I said...wow |

Very nice.
I like the fact that it doesn't look exactly like the photos. You did a great job by using the two different pictures. Not only did you add atmosphere to the piece, but it looks as though you added some of yourself to the piece as well. Which is what makes this a true piece of art. I have no crits.
Keep up the great work my man.

Thanks for the comments and crits...
I really appreciate these forums. They have been incredibly helpful as I work on developing this style of digital painting... |

My turn to chime in for what it's worth...
I agree with most comments and would like to add that you might want to focus on not treating the hair on such a detailed basis, but treat them more as planes. That has been expressed here before by some folks and in my life drawing classes, using said approach has helped me immensely. In the same vein, even though her hair in the photo is a bit tossed on her right side, firming that up and painting it as a solid plane or two would help define her face and make it pop that much more from the background. There is a ton of information in that photo and it doesn't have to be recreated exactly. And yes, blurring some of the sharper areas in the background and maybe lessening the depth/darkness of the wrinkles in her forehead would help, too.
My 2+ cents. Excellent work and all of the other work you've posted here and elsewhere is exemplary as well...

"my sentiments exactly, unlike some who slap a layer in front of a pic and paint on top of it and try and pass it off ad "real" art. it maybe art in its literal term = the expression of ones ideas and thoughts. fleabrain this is incredible. i salute you. i think tho that her cheeks should be a bit red/pink since from the color of the trees and leaves in the bg it's fall/autum. shouldn't that mean it's colder and her cheeks/tip of her nose should be @ least slightly red? just nitpicking."-Chip
I'm glad to see you agree so "whole heartedly" with me Chip. Maybe now you can quit hating on me and my art work?
