Well, a number of you probably have listened to him before, but I'm posting this anyways. The man deserves respect. He's had incredible reviews on all 4 of his albums, sold a fair number of them too... and yet, many still don't know his name.
I'm talking about Amon Tobin.
Basically, I think the guy is a genius. He is not only my personal favorite musician, but he is, in my opinion, one of the most talented as well. If you are not getting those thoughts flowing, and can't quite find any inspiration for your next picture, just pluck one of this guy's cd's into your player. I swear... I completely assure you, sitting back, closing your eyes, and taking in some of his music will make your mind wander.
I can't really describe his music, and I sure as hell wont slap any genre word beside his name, because it's not fair to do so. Some people call his early work drum and bass, and while he does incorporate that style into his songs, you'll also find jazz, latin, movie music (you'll understand), breaks, and countless other noises and sounds that makes his sound unique.
His cd's:
Cujo - Adventures in Foam
Amon Tobin - Bricolage
Amon Tobin - Permutation
Amon Tobin - Supermodified
Many consider Supermodified to be his finest work, but I personally like Permutation. Regardless, every album in fantastic, and I suggest anyone who hasn't heard his sounds at least download a few songs and check it out. |

I listened to Supermodified and i thought it was a bunch of samples crumpled together with lotsa echo applied
Then i checked out Permutation and i liked the way he crumpled those samples together, and echo amount was also nice.
I can recall hearing that song on TV or someplace..
BTW his name sounds Indian, does he believe in Buddha?
If you know him personally, tell him Buddha is a bunch of bullsh*t. |
