Just pondering this one a bit earlier.
I don't think I ever hear anyone here complain about their jobs. I only hear complaints about people without jobs. I think a lot of people end up hating what they do for their life. Is it something in the water? or what?
and one more, are the people in the industry a good group? Where you work (have worked) are there people that don't get along? I would guess that there are people that you don't get along with everywhere, I fear the "elite" artist type with his nose in the air. Hopefully they get sorted out.
So what are your thoughts, or experiences working in the entertainment industry? The good bad and ugly.

if you enjoy doing art you'll have a good time -- if you're looking at it more from a work perspective then that's what it will be |

The people that work behind the scenes in entertainment are exactly as the people you see in this forum. The same breed of imaginative, fairly intelligent, creative, talented, and with a great sense of humor.
Do we sometimes not get along? Well, as you have seen, people here get into arguments sometime(not regarding trolls), so it's the same.
People DO complain about their jobs, but they're only going to do it away from the forum(you DON'T know who browses these forums--it could be your boss or boss's friend, or even a co-worker who is tight with the boss).
Does that explain it?
For example, when I was leaving a game company to be art director at another one, I posted here looking for artists to hire for my next job. And guess what, someone from my company found out about it through here that I was leaving(I didn't want to tell them yet). As far as I knew at the time, NO ONE in my company knew about sijun, and it was just a few days before I posted that person found about sijun.

I work in video games and I actually like all the aspects of my job except the idiotic decisions made for the game by people who are not even working ( Upper management ) on the game and probably don't even like video games and have never played them.
Actually a lot of the places I have worked all the guys I worked with did nothing but complain which is really sad cause it is a fun job but you get caught up in polotics of the company and it's just a downward spiril and you suddenly cant enjoy what your doing anymore. Another thing is in games you put in so much crunch time you are with people sometimes 12-16hrs a day so people can deffinatly get on my nerves sometimes...that's when you put on the head phones and get lost in your work |

Word! (magic pen)
Making games is big business now - and it is hard work - not fun - most of the time. But I realise that I'm lucky to have a job making games at all. For me the best part is when you see your finished game in the shops - even if it didn't turn out "right" (it never does) you still feel proud..
Assholes are everywhere no matter what you do for a living, but you can learn a lot from working in an environment with talented people - regardless of their personality.. |

Some days I envy the people who have a small income but days-worth of free time on their hands to play all the great games out there. Being in the games industry and having to deal with the politics and the repetitive tasks of redesigning art content can put you off playing games in rare amounts of free-time you have yourself.
EDIT: Sorry, that was off topic. Agree with above - arseholes are everywhere. Being able to tolerate them to a degree and discuss disagreements with them maturely is a professional skill in itself.
