I don't think I posted this here. This is a cover we made for a little preview book we sold at our last comic convention. Linework by Ben and Ray Lai. Colors by me.
This a quickie I did over Alex Maleeve's linework just for a test. This took maybe an hour.

G'day Chapel, haven't seen ya in a while. I had a look at your website the other day and saw the preview edition. That's cool that you are now doing this 'professionaly'. Maybe it is a time thing but some of your earlier colouring attempts that I saw 'while back seemed to be more of a liquid! style and a bit brighter and polished. Maybe it is just your own style starting to evolve. It's still great though and the next couple of suggestions are a bit more trivial. Maybe the white wall should be textured/coloured. I just get the sense that the top half of the image looks a little bit bare. I appreciate that the next one is a quick test but I think the background needs to be lightened a little with some highlights. It's a bit hard to make out some of the detail. |

I agree with Shiro_tengu. I haven't really found a lot of links on how to cg correctly.
Chapel your coloring job rocks. It's got that professional comic book coloring written all over it
Gotta like those images of a chick with a whole lotta guns
The background to the dardevil piece has a lot of things going on, I agree with a lot of what Matt Elder had to say. |

Guns, knives, brew, and a scantly clad babe what more could a guy ask for? |

thanks for the comments.
As for the wall being bare in the background.. that was how they wanted it. Bare like everything else.. the girl.. the preview book. We kept it simple.
The Daredevil pic was just a quicky. I didn't like a bright background though. I think with the dark tone helps the shapes play more with your eye. Oh well.. no biggie on that one. |

I too saw the preview on the site.
I really like what you did on it.
Your glares look like simple one touch airbrush glares. But that's probably just being picky. And there is no shading on the ground other then what was inked. I don't think I would have left it like that. She's floating a little too much for my tastes. But in conjunction with the white/blue upper bg, It may be working fine. |

Comic Book coloring is so bland. If you wanna see a real mans coloring, check out Frezzato :P
Nice line art though. |
