both of them done just for fun. the axeman's
axe looks awful, I know. the second one
was supposed to do parody of bulk-fantasy book covers but it turned out to be merely wry and ironical....heehee

Hi.

Great paintings. You have improved since I last saw your first bunch of bald dude paintings. Your anatomy is more refined now and you add more shapes into the body. Your rendering has improved too.

I think that in the second painting you have some major anatomy problems with that right shoulder and the position of the neck and head in relation to that shoulder. It needs fixing.

Hope that helps.

They're beautiful, the top one is my favorite. It's mysterious, makes me wonder what's going on. The lighting and the muscles are just fine!

Well done!

The coloring is very good. I can't draw on the computer so that always impresses me. But I have a feeling that on the top picture, there is something wrong with the lighting. The moon is supposed to be behind the guy, and there is another light source coming from the front. I assume they might be some kind of campfire, but the moon light is definitely weaker, and maybe a bit blue-er..
For the second picture, I think the only thing it lacks is an edge of the cliff that guy and his monster is standing on. You need to define a foreground or I feel the pyramids are just as big as the guy in the front.

I'm not sure I'm explaning this clearly...

I love the background on the top one-- except for that the stars bug the living hell out of me. You do a great job making this psuedo reality where everything has a dreamlike quality-- but then slam some 2D stars in the background to kill its credibility. You cannot see stars that brightly when you are getting closer to a lighted region (i.e. the tree line in your painting). The monster in the bottom one is great! I abhor the background, but I love the monster. The monster is interesting and keeps pulling my attention, but every time I see the background I wonder why it is has light values and other parts have such dark values.
Great stuff
GREG!

whoa, the quality of the critique strikes me.
that's the kind of crits I want to get...
I've tried to improve the below pic and fixed the neck/shoulders area. should've mirrored the pic earlier, the mistakes I had made were obvious. I should put some texture to those pyramids, that should finish the pic for good.

thanks for the compliments as well.

what about the rest of you? comments are still welcome. do you think this kind of rendering quality is sufficient enough to make it for some fantasy/etc mag cover?

I love both pics. Keep on doing what you are doing. My only critiques are these: In the pyramid ones, the background is very basic, especially for how detailed the monster and guy are. The first one, the lighting is a little wierd. The only lightsource that is clearly present is that of the moon/stars, but the light seems to be coming from infront of him. Thats all.
