Well, I can't take credit for the pose, as the pencils are by Joe Madureira.

I'm just the colour geek this time.

Yep, love the colouring job. I thought it was really cool when Joe did that image a couple of months back. The textures are really cool... any clues as to how you did them?

Well, a bit of a disappointing answer coming up, I'm sure.

Prime was coloured entirely in Photoshop, using a mouse, so the texturing is just careful highlights and shadows, as well as a few custom brushes. Diffused brushed with hard edges are the best for getting a feeling of "grain" in steel.

Using them in straight lines and slight arcs makes for the "brushed" look of the metal in places as well. This was a quick job, so nothing complex is really there.

Seraphire: Far too much I've been painting and doing texture and photorealism work for years now, so it gets tedious at times, but I really enjoy the grit and grain of it. I was working on some lizard skin for a bit of a goof off yesterday Always fun when it's not for work, hey?

Thanks for the compliments, it was a fun piece to do. I'll try and get some actual *painting* time in so I can share more around here. Always love looking through everyone else's work.

Awesome coloring job there. Definitly more than meets the eye

I still have all my transformers, boxed up and stuffed in the attic. Got Prime, Starscream, Soundwave to just name a few. Used to look for em at yard sales and the flea market when I was a youngin'

Oh, don't worry at all, I agree with each criticism completely. It's great to get reviews frompeers and professionals, no need to worry about a fragile ego here

This thread has been a nice compliment actually, since I'm a die-hard penciler and usually only touch colour when I'm painting. Thanks for the advice, and yeah, next time I'd be playing down the diffused texture as well...or at least softening the edges of it. Upon visiting your site, I'm duly impressed, you do some great work there. Can't wait to see the hardcopy.

Great coloring job, especially for being done with a mouse.

Take it easy,

Nice job Dark Garden. This is the best I've seen on this pic so far. The texturing does look nice, but the diffused brush stands out too much in my opinion. I'd like to see some harder edges on this piece also.. it is metal after all. The dark purple hue behind Prime is distracting to me. I would have gone with a darker tone of the yellow or brown color you used for the background. Some of the shadows in the chest and arm area could be darker to help bring shapes forward like his forearm and fist (that is where the hard edges would come in handy).

Don't think I'm ripping you apart. I think you did a great job. Just a few tweaks would make it even better. Keep coloring!
