Hi Anaconda.
Do you have a slightly larger version of this? This one is a little hard to make out.
All the shadows are as soft-edged as the lit areas giving it a sort of splotchy look. This also makes the anatomy of the creature a little hard to read. I would encourage you not to use the airbrush tool, dodge tool, burn tool, or any soft-edged brushes while you're learning to paint in photoshop. Stick to the paintbrush with hard-edged brushes for a while. They're a little bit harder to control at first, but they force you to paint more directly as well as choose your colors and values more carefully.
Painting in photoshop works best when you treat it more like real paint and brushes. Once you get the basic skills down, the other tools become useful, but you won't need to rely on them. Your work will be that much better because of it. |
