Hello all,
Below is a sketch of a crab:
And this is the colored piece:
The sketch and the coloring were all done in Photoshop. Overall, the process (from sketch to finish) took about 4 hours.
Please let me know what you think. |

I think this is wonderful. For a couple of reasons:
1. Its a crab. And I love crabs.
2. The close up and angle that you have chosen are great. Brings the subject, face to face.....which considering the subject...is a pretty rare sight.
3. Nice choice of color. The purple is a creative choice is it not? I like the bits of detail here and there, with the dark and light browns.
If I were to suggest anything, it might be to put the far leg a little out of focus as you have chosen to do that with the crabs right eye (crabs right, not yours)
Great work! I've always felt that crabs needed better representation in these forums. |

Hi TE,
Thanks for the kind comments and the good crit. I agree about the legs. As to the eyes ... this particular crab DOES have purple eyes in real life. This is one reason I chose this subject. I was not used to seeing crabs with these colors. |

Nice colors, the background makes a good contrast. A big step up from the original sketch. |

I used a photo reference for the sketch and the coloring. I sketched it freehand (did not trace) using a Graphire tablet in Photoshop and painted it using the same. |
