Ok, so i finally found a decent place for drawings and computer coloring. Do you know how hard it is to find a place like this???
Anyway, to start my first post, i thought i would post my four first colored pictures. I've colored pictures before, but not really the same "realistic" way, with as much shadow and stuff... thanks for the tutorial on this site by the way, it helped me get started, even though i do it in a much different way now.
Anyway, this first one. its a drawing i made in hand, took a pic of it, and put it in the comp, and did my best with the colors, but the highlights didn't work as good as i had hoped. If anyone knows the X-Men, its cyclops:
This is my second coloring. Its not my original picture, but a picture by a friend of mine. i just did it for fun, and i think the higlights work pretty well:
Third coloring. I know this pic sucks, but i thought i would post it anyway. I made the original drawing like the first, but there was so much shadow, that it was hard to do anything interesting with the pic. Its a picture of Luke Skywalker (star wars) when he is on the dark side:
This is my latest. Only the figure is originally drawn by me. Its Magneto, also from X-Men. I then manioulated bakcground, water, moon etc. in photoshop, so it looked like drawings. I dont have a cool Wacom thing, so its hard for me to draw on the comp. I'm kinda proud of it, but thats because its only my 4rd.

welcome aboard juan!
nice pixes you got there, here's my crit
the figures look cut out because of the hard edges on their outline, also you have to reflect some colors. it's too much local color, don't paint like you're doing a coloring book.
other than that, these pictures have a definite cool mood to them. |

I hardly think that the unicorn and the last one looks like they are cut out. but if you say so mate...
the first and the third dont have any other background than themselfs, so its impossible to put color on them from that. the unicorn is on grass, and its been a while since i've seem reflection of the color from grass!
the last image does have relfection colors, which is mainly blue, from the water and sky of course...
so could you spesify a little more, cuz i dont think i understand. |

Hey there... These are good starts. One problem though is that some of them look unfinished because of the lack of detail in some parts and the abundance of it in others, it's not unified so it feels like work in progress. I agree with jr about the hard edge outlines, it does give one the feeling of cut-out. About the detail thing, for example, the unicorn has light on its back and head but not even a little bit on the legs, and yes, light even reflects off of the grass. Try mixing in colors that aren't "supposed" to be there (but they really are I think) like grass is green, but it can also be yellow, brown, and blue... and with the cyclops picture there is rendering on the face in some places but not in others like on his chin and around his lips. I dunno. I guess that;s my 2 cents... wait... maybe that was 4 cents =) |

Well, remember that as i said the first picture was just my first, and i wasn't really planning on doing that much detail. just coloring it kind of realistic...
but i really dont see the thing with the cutouts... (oh, and by the way, remember that the unicorn drawing aint originally mine)
and yes, i agree that some things reflect colors, but i dont feel grass does. and in the last drawing, it does have the colors that are around it. |

I don't really like #1 and #3. They look too... undinished and smeared.
The unicorn and magneto rock ass, though. Only a few slight crit's:
pic #3) The grass looks like green water. You could fix this by adding some more lines, and make a gradual transition between the grass and the body.
pic #4) You'll need to soften the outline a bit. |

Nice start, but your Luke Skywalker looks a little too much like Cam Kennedy's in Star Wars: Dark empire. The colors are too flat and there's little distinguishable detail.
The magneto one is the coolest. I like the way the colors fade on his costume and blend in with the rain. I'd tone down the trees or fire or whatever that is in the background though, It takes away from the overall atmosphere and distracts your attension away from the subject. Maybe darken it or flatten the colors to make it look just a little blended with the sky. Do the same with the moon. Though on the moon, if you're going to make it that big it should have more detail. Maybe add some craters and some shading.
Good stuff and welcome aboard.

as i said, i know nr3 sucks big time, i just wanted to make something quick, and thats what came out of it. and the first, well.. it was my first. thought i think the face came out ok, though i totally forgot about the lips.
well, yeah maybe a little extra to the moon... and yeah, that is trees, but as i said, its hard to actually draw with only a mouse, so i can't do better than manipulate real images when they aint in my original drawing.
and on the unicorn, well, if i could i would make the grass better, but its the same prop as in the trees with "magneto" |

I think your last image is the best. However, it would look a lot better if the colors weren't so overly saturated. Everything is competing for attention and seems to run together a bit. Also the fact that you highlight with bright white seems a little odd, the moon wouldn't give off solid white highlights.
And on a side note, you don't need to explain yourself on every flaw that people are crit'ing on. We've all been there, nobody is perfect. If you don't plan on fixing these images, just keep the suggestions in mind for future pieces. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Oh i dont feel i'm defending myself really...
anyway, so on the colors. i agree that the "trees" might be to strong, but what the fuck. the reason a few highlights are white, is because its either a flaw or meant to be. you can't see it, but the gloves and boots are actually grey in reality, so they give a more whitie shade. on the helmet, that was a fucked accident, lol... |
