Hey everyone
I've been on vacation for the past three days at my family's cabin. Anyway, without my computer, I've been doing alot of sketching and stuff. It's really been WAY TOO LONG since I've done this kind of stuff. I've been doing plain line art purely for scanning for so long that I think I forgot how to make real pencil art!
Anyway, here's my latest, I did this in about twenty minutes and without any digital tweaks except for the signature which was fairly unreadable at first. I made this after reading the Hobbit for the first time (yes, the first time...I've been living in a cave), I decided to illustrate one of the goblins. Keep in mind that for the most part, I pretty much despise all fantasy, but since the Hobbit was so great, it seemed only right that I try and illustrate something from it.
What do you think? |

I guess it sucks that this pic sits around for so long without even ONE COMMENT on it.
I would color this, using desaturated earthy colors, put a creepy background behind it, and away you go. |

Yeah that sounds about right. Anyway, thanks for taking the time yourself.
Anyway, this is just one of the many little sketches I was able to get done while on vacation. I actually went back for a few more days after posting this. I had to do some laundry so I figured what the heck, I'll post. I'll probably just color it like it's concept artwork since I have trouble taking subjects and then inserting them into a background. The image just seems to lack a certain dianamic when I try that. I'll obviously clean it up too. |

If you 'despise' most fantasy, but love "The Hobbit," then definitely read the LOTR trilogy, but be SURE to check out Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn... a trilogy by Tad Williams... a modern day Tolkein. I've also been inspired to draw creatures from his books. If you're ever in need of inspiration... |

Actually I've just started the first one of the LOTR trilogy. I wanted to read them before the movie came out this Christmas. I don't think I'll be making a genre jump though. It'll still be dinos and aliens for me and for a long time.
BTW, May I formally request that a Moderator move this thread into the Work in progress section? I've decided to keep working on it. I just thought I'd give you the heads up. |

Everything is at a side view except for the head. I think if at least one arm or leg was turned a bit, the pic would be a lot more interesting. Good job though, I like it. |

LOTR isn't a trilogy. It's one big novel !
Oh, and I dig your picture, but like they said, add some colors and a background. The left leg looks a bit twisted (it looks like it's under his right leg instead of next to) Other than that it looks great |

I just decided that this was far from finished. Thanks for the feedback. For now I made a cleaner and more detailed version.

Actually, Lord of the Rings is SIX books. For sale purposes it is usually sold as three, putting two books in one binding. |
