Hello! I need some help with this one. I like the linedrawing. But I really can't colour it. I tried as you can see, but it looks wrong. Might be because if the snow landscape as well.
The character is the roleplaying character from my brother. He asked me to draw his headhunter.
I'm posting the linedrawing in its original size as well. I'm looking for colouring jobs and/or overpaints. Critique and comments and whatnot. HELP!
The grey vest is supposed to be a chainvest

It's not bad at all..i really like the lineart. i think the entire figure is too dark- the environment ,being bright and bluish, should have a more substantial color affect on the figure. i'd also try giving the image more depth by adding a distant layer of mountains or by allowing the forground to recede into the horizon.
or, you can simply wait for joachim/spooge/micke/[..] to kindly do a repaint. |

I like the pose. If the sky is blue, the shading on the snow should be blue . . . also, his upper mandible is waaay to long (vertically), it looks like he's got a full three inches between the bottom of his nose and the top of his lip, but most people only have an inch or so. Either raise his bandana higher, or give him a mouth.
Otherwise, cool stuff! |

Looking good so far
One thing though, I'm not sure if he's supposed to be in the sand or the snow. The colors of the bg look snowy, but the fact that he's wearing (what I would consider to be) a sun-blocking hat, a scarf to keep dust out of his face and rolled up sleeves makes me feel like he should be in the sun.
I like the pose though

Ok, here's an overpaint - I like the drawing, well done. but I think the colors in snow should be more muted and cooler.

hey S4Sb
nice drawing. i like the pose and your scretchboard look. the snow environment is a good choice too. i can imagine a interesting story behind the character already. yeah i agree, steven did a good job on the paintover. funni, in traditional painting, you gotta really push the croma and value of those colors to the extreme to get good results. but in digital, u would do quite the opposite...which is mule the color. wonder who else agrees with me.

Bilbo: Thanks. Yes, you are definetly right. I will change the bg to a dark medieval city street tho. That way I can dodge those complex colour effects.
balistic: Thanks. Ah, damnit. I'll never learn to draw the proportions right. Thanks for pointing out.
Jez: Thanks! Yeah. You're right. But I thought his clothing is too heavy and warm for a desert enviroment. So I took a winter scene. But I'm not convinced with it as well. I try to come up with a city scene as you read this.
BTW: What happened to your website project? Did I miss something?
Steven Stahlberg: Wow. Thanks a lot. I understand your points I guess. And I thought my colours were under saturated. heh. Got lots to learn.
Dryfire: Thanks. I'll do that.
MShady: Thanks. But I really don't know about that colour question. You know I'm the wrong to ask. I would be interested in what other people think about it tho. |

Hehehe... yeah... the website project. It hasn't been forgotten, as a matter of fact I have to think about it everyday. But unfortunately I cannot possibly finish the site until after August 12th. I have a website for a client to complete as well as a bunch of things for an upcoming convention. And of course the 12th is my birthday (also the last day of the convention). It's not an idea that's going down the drain so don't worry... after receiving a special package in the mail it's keeping me more motivated than ever to work on it

My thoughts were to darken the sky a bit and make the foreground more deserty, the main figure looks more like he's dressed for heat than cold. add some golds siennas and umbers to the ground and maybe some grey cloudy skies? |
