This is an old project that I've decided to finish up. I'd really appreciate any comments, critiques or help you could give me for this. Thanks.

hey that looks really nice. the colours feel nice and warm. i like that. i also like how you did the bark on the tree.

one thing though. the girl in the pic stands out from everything else. like the hills and sky are kinda blurry compaired to her, but then i guess she is the focus of the picture and you want her to stand out, but maybe just a little more detail in the hills and sky. not important though. it works the way it is.

good work. keep it up

Hey L99Relm,

Out of all your pieces you've shown here, I think I like this one the most. There's something about the colours being a bit more saturated than usual, that make this my favourite of yours so far.

My 2 cents.

Radiater.

this is really nice, it has a very soft feel to it. The colours are quite bright but it still all works nicely together IMHO

Thanks for your comments peoples.

Hunter: Glad you like it. And as you can see up above I did try (keyword try) to define some of the anatomy you mentioned more...

stefan.o: I fixed the face stuff that you mentioned and did a little with the right arm (but I'm not really sure what else I can do to make it look better). I may skip the atmospheric perspective for this pic since I like it the way it is with bright colors in the background and all.

Guy: Thank you. Yeah, you're right the hills and sky are blurry, but strangely enough I like it that way (I actually had fun making the background for the picture...it's lose and colorful).

Radiater: ^_^

jasonN: Good. Good. Thank ya...way to make me happy. =)

Hi There-

I like this piece alot, and enjoy the colors and the design of it. There is nice detail in some areas, like the ear and the fabric as well as the face. Although I'm not sure how much stylization you intend for the piece. I think that you can improve this alot by defining the anatomy more. Such as the wrist, the areas where the shoulder meets with the chest plain and clavicle(sp?), then the neck. Good Luck!

It looks good overall, but there are some things you can improve.

For instance, the perspective in her face is a bit off IMHO. You've made her chin more protruding in your pic than it is in the reference. With a chin like that I'd expect to see part of the cheek as well.. Also, I think the nostril is too high up.

Her right upper arm looks a bit stiff, maybe you could add some more curves to it? For instance, in the reference pic you can see the curve of her tricep.

To make her stand out more from the background, and make the background look better at the same time, you could make the colors less bright the farther away they are. This is called 'atmospheric perspective'..

The pose looks very good and natural.

It's a nice picture. My suggestion is to add some shadow between her cape and the tree. I find that it's the only unnatural park of this painting.
And oh, nice reference picture.

L99Relm: I just thought, in nature, at least there are some shadows. In your original version, the light seems very soft, so adding some soft shadow between her and her cape would be nice. But in Gordillo's revised version, the lighting direction is more defined and intense, so the soft shadow can be omitted. Sorry that I can't show you how to do it, I don't know how to use Photoshop very well. I just base on my critiques on my general knowledge.

Ahcri: Hmm...given the lighting direction, where would I put shadow between her cape and the tree?

faustgfx: Um ok, I don't even know who Meg Ryan is...

Bob the Newt: Yep it is indeed Relm.

Gordillo: Thanks for sharing your version. Wow... I think the lighting and stuff you added in your version of this picture is really neat. Could you please explain how you went about creating it? You know, tell about why, where, and with what you made the changes you did. I think I'd be very interesting to hear. =)

Gordillo's version convinced me that I needed to work on detailing the background a little more...
