After that last effort, I'm back to doing straight painting again.
Listening to Bjork's "Pluto" last night, I got the image of a female Pluto (a.k.a. Hades, Greek/Roman god of the underworld), so I decided to go for it. This is the first painting I've done totally from my head (no reference) that I feel comfortable posting. The pose is rather undynamic, but since I suck at doing lighting from my head, I wanted something "easy" to practice on.
Crits (especially re lighting), paint-overs, your own interpretations of Pluto, etc., are all welcome.

I really like it. The hair is great, and I think for the subject the pose is fine. I imagine this as some sort of album cover.
Very cool dark feeling to it.

I like this. Great style to it. I don't think you should modify it. What's so appealing is the simple form depicted in the shadows and highlights. You've captured the right mood. No need for dynamic lighting. Would make a cracking album cover, btw. |
