the first one was done for school
(--->subject: light and shadow)
a few weeks ago ( 8*20 inches )
(btw it's a room with a guy sitting on a bed)
the second one
is my first real attempt to paint a still life--it's only a tile because the whole picture was too big for the scanner
( 14 * 23 inches )

thanks hipmix
scan of the first one is ok but a few colors were lost
I like it as it is
the only thing that bothers me is the round table
I just couldn't manage to make him look like a table....he looks more like a carpet
any ideas what's wrong with it
I don't like the second one because I tried to get the materials right-looking but I failed--the bottle is standing square too
I like the reflection though
but the white reflections on top of the bottle are just too rough
crits and comments are welcome |

I also like the color of the first one, but I think it has some perspective problems, especially on the left wall.
The second one is great, good job on the reflection on the bottle. |

Hey, I really dig the first one. I think you could make the "rug" look more like a table by intensifying the shadow it casts and giving it noticable edges where light should fall off. The second one is pretty good, too. I love the reflection on the bottle, its great. I think you could soften the reflection at the top by mixing a bit more green in there with the white so that it gives the whole thing a bit more consistancy. Fuckin A,

Ahcri:
the perspective is right as it is
but you are right that it doesn't correspont the linear-pesrpective correctly
I ''bended'' the whole room for purpose
to get more ''life'' in the picture
Fatch: I already tried to darken the shadow of the table but it didn't worked
but I think your second tip would have worked -thanks
bottle:
pure white is baaaad!
I never should used that |

hi silber,
1. painting, istill told you my opinion about it, but for short:
-i like the perspektive as it is (did you correct the bed in perspektive?).
-the alignment of light and shadow is interesting.
2. one:
-colors are beautiful: warm and cold
- nice reflections inside of the bottle
-in my opinion theres too much of contrast in it (green-red, bright yellow-dark mood in the rest of the painting) |
