A track I started this weekend (unfinished). Its more jazzy than a lot of my stuff. Let me know what you think.
Its all done in Orion, and doesn't use any loops or presets. The only samples are the snare, hihats, and the vocal bit (that's me). The rest is synthesized in real time. |

Hey you!.. The vocal bit should go, it's really out of tone and distracting from the tune :o
Maybe you should put some lyrics in there and it'll sound better. I assume it's not yoru natural voice but you upped pitch? Then the pitch is too high also :o |

Considering it's an unfinished piece, I have the following comments:
1)I like the bassline, but could use more variation.
2)Need drum breaks.
3)Vary the vocals. Also, I agree that the vocals are a bit awkward. Maybe just use a different melody for the vocals?
Here's a trick I use to determine if a track is interesting enough:
Play the track, and just drag the fastforward bar a little bit at a time towars the end of the song. If everytime you stop the bar, the music still sounds pretty much the same, it means your track is badly in need of variation. |

Thanks for the feedback guys.
One thing I should mention, is that I'm writing this one specifically for release on 12" vinyl. While a lot of my previous stuff was aimed at home listening, I'm moving more towards making records that are accessible to DJs. One aspect of that is that I'm using longer lead-ins, and planning on the first and last couple minutes of a track being intermixed with something else. Its a different format, and something I'm still feeling out . . . I don't want to be slavishly formulaic (break every sixteen bars, et cetera), but I also want to make tracks that will get played out at clubs and parties.
I'll look into changing the vocal though . . . maybe I'll just bandpass it so it sounds like a funk guitar ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Oh yeah, I love it when people go in and completely fuck up the vocals with wild tweaks. I'm not talking about the current shitty vocoder wanabe crap all the pop and R&B music is using. I HATE the way they do it.
Run it through some kind of bypass filter, or just chop it up and ARP the shit out of it. |
