Hey everybody, nice to see the community back on line. This is a great place to share and learn, it was sad to have it down for so long. The good thing about it is that a lot of you had time to do a bunch of stuff and we get to see a lot at once. Anyhow, here's a piece that premiered on Francis' forum, which is a great place to find some awesome art as well. This is a part of the same "world" as my previous posts. I also did a tutorial for this that will soon get published on the web.

Let me know what you think.

Who are you? Travis Charest
Great pic. He's got that "You lookin' at me" thing going. He must be from New York.

Great image indeed adigra, I love it. Great textures. Maybe a little bit of color variation in the face would make it look even better, or maybe not, just a suggestion ...

Wow, I am starting to try and learn some more technical things about photoshop such as creating a more textured look in things I create. I really would like to eventually figure out how you managed to make such natural textures!

there is a definite charest influence on your work. especially in the way you draw your legs and feet. but then again... i also see alot of AH! in your work. especially in your linework and such. altogether not bad, though the head is a bit lopsided on top.

and the hands are sweet... i love a good drawing of a hand.

Hey, thanks for the responses and comments.

-MrHat, The textures in this and most of my other work were not created digitally but with pencils and watercolors, black and white before it was scanned and colored in Photoshop.

-hamilton, it is interesting that you say that you can see Charest influence in the way I draw legs and feet. I mainly use my
Ultimate Soldier 12" figure (kinda like GI Joe) as reference for my figures including legs and especially feet. I really like Travis's work but actually dislike how he draws feet, hmm... One of my all time favorite artists is Alphonse Mucha "the father" of Art Nouveau and has been a great influence on me. That is where the linework in some of my stuff comes from, not AH who has pretty much adopted the Mucha style in his older work. I didn't discover Adam until a while ago, and I do think he's excellent, but haven't seen too much of his work. I like his Wonder Woman covers a lot.

Definitely the mechanical design and the face. They remind me very much of Charest. Oh the coloring style too. But, it is still an awesome piece.

It reminds me of Liberatore's Ranx Xerox characters and style.

Good job!

perhaps i should elaborate. i don't necessarily see the charest influence in the details of the legs... more like the layout. i can't explain very well, but when i saw the big thumbnail page (on your site) i noticed it immediately. the AH! influence i mentioned, i actually saw a couple times. he has that prounounced outer lining and the detailed inner line work. and then the very subtle coloring inside. i noticed it especially on the panorama starwars shot. (or maybe again... it's just that the whole layout of that picture reminded me of an AH! painting.)

obviously no artist is without influence. and i don't mean to say that you copy them by any means. i myself am a seres of fairly obvious amalgamations of other artists. (joe MAD! is my biggest influence... i think :P ) but as long as i know you've seen their work, then i'm not going to completely write off any influence. maybe if you said you hadn't seen them at all. i find myself drawing something and then later thinking gosh... that looks alot like a drawing someone else did that i saw. i may not have been consciously thinking about it while i was drawing... but i bet somewhere subconsciously i was...

hm... this has been your daily dose of bullshitf rom hamilton. take it as you like.

His face reminds me of the lead singer of Muse, for some reason.

I've read your tutorial, it was an excellent read.

I love this piece, it's interesting how far you can refine your work. Makes all my stuff look like doodles.(which they are actually)

you have a fairly light background and despite that the shadows on the figure are quite strong. It's perfect when you look at them separately but when you look at them as a whole, I think there would be more light bouncing off the background hitting the back of the figure. The highlights/mid tones on the metal surfaces are one of the best I've seen!!

[Hi Adigra,

Your work is an excellent of art. That's the way I feel about it. The metallic feel is absolutely fantastic and I have only seen this kind of artwork by Vincente Segrelles, author of "The Mercenary" and of course some of the Heavy Metal magazines. Hope to see more of your work soon.

Thank you all very much, it means a ton to me.

I love the fact that it was compared to Liberatore's Ranx Xerox. I loved that character and the superb art.

Anyhow, as immi said above, there will be a tutorial describing my process in creating this piece on www.cgchannel.com . And by the way Dave, I hope you are feeling better.
