This fantasy piece was done in photoshop. I was trying to prove to myself that I could paint something other than scifi.

Here are the things I was tr ying to achieve with this one...
Scene takes place during the day...very humid, jungle-like.

I hope I got it right.
Please feel free to critique it.

I used a hard edged brush this time

After

where did all that detail come from? no one knows!

Uhh, just wondering but what happened to the other side of his head? shouldn't you see those spike things from the other side as well going out the back?

Second pic looks great. I had a little trouble figuring out the size of the dragon since its hard to see if he is showing up behind the bushes/trees in the foreground or from the fog in between mountain walls, but i guess its just that huge judging from the size of the birds.
Love the detail especially the skin on the dragons neck.

I'm not a genius...If I were, I'd be a gazillionaire by now

I'm going to paint the spikes on the other side of his head, and make the right mountain overlap the serpent more...so that its obvious that the mountain(our right) is in front of it.

Hey nice.

So was the first one just a colour proof? or did you change and refine the detail in it? I'd love to see some in progress if you got any?

very nice, I much prefer the hard edged work, soo much detail in the foreground and backgorund, maybe more fantasy there?
Just a suggestion

Great. I wish I could paint something like this.

My only critique is the perspectiv at the lower border. It looks somehow strange. Maybe there should be more of those palm-trees close to the edge?

I really dig the castle at the background. Would you mind, drawing a close-up? I want to see more of it!

neat-o! I like in-progress pics, they are very educational. Is this the original resolution? Or is it shrinked down?

this is not the original resolution...the original is much bigger.

here's a close up of the castle.

I'm going to be adding more details to this piece during the week..
more trees on the bottom....and other stuff. Please keep suggesting...the feedback I'm receiving is really good.

I added the close-up of the city incase some of you didn't have time to check it out.
Should I add more detail?

Battlements would look real good and maybe a few more bridges between the towers?

Nice work... I love seeing how stuff develops from initial sketching to final image... especially when it's all done on computer.

This is really nice work - the dragon's head is phenomenal. My tiny bit of crit would be this: add a little more blue to the more distant moss. It'll increase the depth... Also, you might want to have the glow in his eye get brighter in the middle. If it's supposed to be very bright (since it's neon, I'm assuming so) maybe it should also have a little light hitting his eye ridge?

Anyway, I love the detail and texturing you put into him, especially with his head fins - great job!

Littlepoop, this looks awesome.
I love the detail in the second one, and can't wait until you modify some more.

I have one question, approximately how long did this take from the first pic to the second. I only ask cuz I feel like I'm taking too long do finish my own work and would like to know some times froms others that I admire.

Hope to see this one complete soon, keep on keepin on.

Hi. Couple little things. First, you could probably do a lot more with atmospheric perspective. That's probably why your two mountains and the serpent all appear to be on the same plane - they all have the same level of contrast. Try adding a little more haze between us and the serpent, and even a little more between us and the mountain on the left, and I think the depth will read a lot better.

The other thing... it doesn't look like this serpent has a body. Just a neck, sticking up from nowhere. It might be good to suggest an even greater widening of the neck at the base to suggest a body (if this is a dragon-like creature), or some more coils in the distance if it's supposed to be more snake-like. Not a big deal, though. Looks great!

Eh, I couldn't resist. I hope you don't mind.

I chopped everything up into different layers, then played with the levels to give things in the distance less contrast, and things in the foreground more. I'm not sure how much farther back you meant the left mountain to be... I think I pushed it a little too far, since the details are at about the same scale as those in the mountain on the right. But whatever. I hope this helps. Really cool picture.

ok here's modification 1.0
-Added Spike on the other side of the dragon's head(its right)
-added a subtle highlight on the ridge of his eyes
-Added a bit more blue to the left mountain
-overlapped the right mountain over the Serpent to make it more obvious that the mountain is in front.
-Added more foreground trees.

Waylon...yup the left mountain is pushed back a little too much.
I wanted to make the mountains fairly close to each other so that the serpent would look enormous...sorta claustrophobic.

anyway here it is.

Waylon: Did you happen to go to the E3, the one that just passed, by any chance?

I like the new version. The changes you made were subtle, but they work very well.

And yeah, I was at E3. Why?
