The stance is really wrong and he looks a bit flat. |

If I was fighting a shao-lin, and he took a stance like that. I'd laugh at him, then kick his shin and knock him over.
I like the shadeing on the top of the ring though

His arms are a bit funky. The anatomy seems off proportion-wise, and the musculature is wrong. Does he have tracheal cancer? I don't get the bleeding mouth thing ;p Try out http://www.yoyodyne.net/Projects/loomis/index.html for a great anatomical resource. Keep at it. Just needs some tweaking. |

Don't forget they are suppose to have tattoos on their arms.. I'm not sure it's real or not, but from the "Kung Fu" TV series, I learnt that a shaolin priest should have one tiger tattoo on his left forearm, and a dragon tattoo on his right forearm.
I was addicted to that show. And the other problems of your character has been stated, so I won't say anything else. |

Ahcri -- that's true partially, but you're wrong about them being tattoos; Shao-Lin monks, after being initiated, were branded with those markings on their left and right arms. The whole spiel about carrying the red-hot cauldron? Well, the rest of their arms would be burned beyond recognition as well; Not just the parts of the dragon and tiger. :P |

The closest stance to what he has there is the cat stance. Only in that the lead foot is only lightly resting on the pointed toe, with no weight on it. Also, the southern Shaolin temple likely wouldn't do that stance(the northern temple doesn't exist today in the same form if I'm not mistaken). |

Wow, that's a better response than I was expecting. I realise you guy's wanted a more 'tear your pants' kind of stance, not to make excuses but I was just looking for design, mainly the clothing.
His 'popeyes' (those forearm muscles that I can't remember the name of) are exaggerated, just cos' I like 'em! The bleeding mouth thing was because I'd just watched Iron Monkey, low and behold....bleeding mouth monks!!!! I'm thinking he's an evil monk in exile after running off with the Abott's staff. Thanks for the tips guys! I'll pay more attention to stance in the next one! |

Here's some photos and movies from a Shaolin Kung Fu training camp I attended. These should help you come up with interesting poses.
