Hello to all, I just recently found out about this place and have been checking it out for a few days. I thought it would be appropriate to introduce myself and post something. This, while largely a traditional medium painting, was colored in Photoshop and a few highlights were added as well. I'd appreciate some feedback.

That is....fantastic.
How long do you think this took you? Any tips on how you went about making the metals look so real?
Also, did you use guide lines to get the symetry correct for the non-living parts?
Once again, great work. I love it.

Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.
leakey, this piece was done over a week in between stuff I was getting paid for (this is part of a personal project). If I had to pin a number to it I'd say somewhere around 20-25 hours. It would be a 2-3 day job if I had to do it fast. The design took longer than the rendering.
As far as metals go, I'd say it's in the way they break the light up. In this case it is worn out, scratched kind of metal so there is a lot of texture but still some strong highlights as well. Also the highlights are much sharper than on the skin or rubber that the girl is wearing. Observation of the environment is the key.
I used guidelines on some elements and some I just drew by feeling. |

Very nice stuff Adi! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I see some influence from Travis Charest in some of your stuff. You have a very nice and clean shading technique, interesting poses and strong linework. That is meant to be a compliment, he is one of my absolute favorite artists.. If you haven't seen any of his work I'd recommend to check it out, pretty interesting stuff.
Keep up the great work, and welcome to the board!

Man, that is fantabulous. Major Charest influence it looks like? I love the desaturated colors. The textures are awesome. |

wow, overwhelming response, thank you all. I get the Travis comments often. I must say I was well into this direction before I saw his work (that being the first issue of Wildcats 2 years ago I guess). He has been a great inspiration and (somewhat unfortunately) altered my direction. Still my greatest influence is the great Moebius.
To answer a question: I did do a lot of star wars rpg stuff that Adam Hughes has also worked on but I can't answer the question about which exact set of characters I did is related to the ones Adam did. (btw Hughes is great) So I am not sure if I did what the question is referring to.
Also I am a freelancer and this is part of a personal project since I am too lazy to read the contracts to find out if I can post the stuff I get paid for.
Once again thanks to all, some great art on here, very inspirational.

Thats pretty cool especially the faces.
A few things that look odd tho...
The higlight on the blue suit on the back of the female's head looks malplaced.
The females's proportions looks odd too, probably due to the armour design. Try making armours more close to human anatomy? |

Nice stuff here and on your site man. I saw this back on Francis' forum but didn't get a chance to comment or check your site out until now. I noticed on your resume` that you did some work for NST. Did you happen to come across an artist there named Matt Collins, I went to school with him next door there...just curious. If you're still there at NST ask him if he knows a guy named TJ
Again, really nice work.
