tee hee! sorry for the blah background. I may whip up something more interesting later, but I needed to use the illo for job hunting.
PLEASE: is there anyone who needs a good illustrator in the VA/DC area? I would love to hear from you.
Hey, anyone else have any cool vector illos? Post them here!

This is so awesome!! Makes me want to try my hand at illustrator again... although I think I'd just be humiliating myself after seeing this
Excellent work... I think the hair looks mighty spiffy.

Ooooh!
Even nicer than the fluffy furry animals
The chin bugs me though, It looks kinda pasted on (not flowing with the rest of the gradients)...
Keep it up!

damn , that s fantastic !
any user of illustrator knows it s really difficult to get something like that, vectors are so laborious !
Really impressive, how many time did it take ?
P.S : yum, pretty face

tee hee! Thanks. ;} I appreciate the enthusiasm!
Ko: yeah, the chin bugs me too. AND the lips... somehow managed to get the teeth almost 3d (huge though they are), but the lips are a little fake next to them. I'll fix that chin. ;}
toast, gimbal8: I did this in spare time over a few days, but if I had to nail down a time limit...I'd say about eh, two days work...15 hours.
Any suggestions for a background? |

damn merekat, you are hot hot hot (I know, you wanted an artistic opinion, but it's a great piece, and my first impression was the smiles, eyes, and tilt of the head winning me over) |

I just don't believe it. I find trying to do a portrait in illustrator as difficult as trying to sculpt a statue with just your fingers. You amaze me with all your posts, merekat. |

Wow!
People at my school are always bitching how "illustrator sucks, waaaah!" and I always stick up for it, but damn, what you did is amazin! My only problem is the the teeth don't really match the style of the rest of the face, to me they look too real compared to the whole face. |

Damn Kat, you just keep bowling me over.
I also live near DC, but in MD.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wl/JS_JobSearch.shtml
thats what I use to keep track of the market, it really sucks for me since i'm mostly self taught and cant afford any of the high end programs. If you find anything, see if they need a mediocre artist as well...:-D
As far as a background goes, I like the brown, but if you want, maybe try a marbled dkblue to medium blue to accentuate your eyes.
Awesome pic, I love the hair, but i would go crazy trying to do that much detail on my program.

Wow, Merekat. This is fabulous! Would love to give Illustrator a run for this kind of work. You wouldn't have any useful info around on workflow, tips/tricks etc. while working with gradients???
Very nice!

such wonderful responses! thanks!!! ;} Still, everyone, I'm open for job offers in the VA/DC area. ;} Tawk ta me! ;}
patrick: thank you! ;}
vgta: actually, I have no idea. I taught myself this in a couple weeks of figiting, but I always loved freehand, so it wasn't that hard. as for tutorials, Adobe puts out these 'classroom in a book' books that I've found exceedingly helpful in other programs. You might want to try those out. I learned Go Live and Live Motion that way. They're excellent books! ;}
kathode: I've done as we talked. Please, if there's anything else I can do to get work in such a great place, lemme know!!!!
Vesuvius: *blush* thank you...
zenzuke, daz199, wyatt, afex, egerie: you're too kind!
Ysg: I KNOW!!! hahahah. it's amazing. I just don't get it. I worked forever on those because of outlines or them looking horrid, and all of a sudden, wham. there it is! ;}
Not sure what to do about it. I'm supposing I'll go into it again, especially with the eyes and background...lips are a little fake, too...
boomstick: um, I'd love to help, but I'm not sure where to start. do you have any particular questions I could answer for you?
stneil777: that is 100% illustrator! not a pixel of photoshop influence, I swear! ;}

I humble myself before your illustrative mastery oh queen of the vector. How one can produce such magnificent works in Illustrator 9.0 is beyond me. |

Oh my fucking god... How did I miss this...?
egads this is great work, Merekat...I had no freaking idea Illustrator 9 was capable of this stuff... I guess it goes back to the old saying...It's not the tool, it's the artist using it... Keep up the great work. |

Holy aghfsgah!
That's some insane gradient meshwork.
I love illustrator, it has been my second weapon of choice since I learned it in school. It's great for making print friendly lineart (among other things). I've never tried to make something photorealistic with it though. |

everyone: *giggle* oh thank you! ;} I had some fun doing this one, I really did. It's so nice to present something like this in a forum where people really understand what goes into vector drawings!
impaler: I was thinking of perhaps doing a vector scene in the future. not quite sure what to tackle, tho. samurais would be nice... so would sci-fi...eh, I really don't know. nothing strikes me at the moment. suggestions? |

I demand you marry me immediately. I can then use you ta make millions.
In all seriousness, that is unbelievably outstanding work, and you still have to marry me. Ill stare at the skin for a fews hours now, trying to figure out how you did that... |
