HHA damn! I like it.
It has an illustrative style, and your mark making is very consistent, so the texture doesnt bother me. You do need to study the human form more...wee alll do...ALOT! never stop studying the human form. The flame is too yellow and sharp, it takes away the focus from the man...soften it, or make it less YELLOW , looks neat...also, everything is separated by colors..the lamp is brown , the shirt yellow green, etc...try to get more color in each of the elements...like the shirt can have more purple in the shadows, or whatever, you did it a little...it looks nice...it is soo consistent that it works

Good job

I agree about the candle flame being to bright. I really like the style but I'm wondering where the candle is in relation to the book and the man. In front? to the side?
maybe some more defined shadow on the face would help pinpoint wher ethe candle is in perspective.

Or then again I could be making no sense at all.

Looks great!

I tried to illustrate the points of others with a REALLY quick overpaint. I hope I didn't offend you, and I hope I didn't wreck it :P

very thanks for your critics. now, the day after (painting the pic) i am especially not very happy with the head and hand. that look not naturally.

u2art: yeah i have to study more human references. and thanks for the coloring advices.

hippie: yes the light location is not very clear pointed out, i should fix that.

Frosted Flame: thanks for making the effort for the overpaint. no, im not offended the overpaint has more of atmosphere i intended than my pic :-/ and i should give the human parts more structure as in your overpaint.
