FOO! (1024x768).
This one is my first wallpaper. I know people here aren't big fans of this type of art but I'd still love to hear some comments and suggestions for my future work...
Thanks!

Nice. Well done for your first. I can't quite see the meaning within this. I can understand that it obviously has more relevance to you. I don't really know what to say as a consequence.
In terms of graphic design, I think that you have struggled a bit with your composition. It seems to me that you didn't really have a clear purpose in the way you organised / composed your elements. I don't think that your composition does justice to the technical skill you seem to have, and the idea you are portraying.
I would say that the composition is static. There doesn't seem to be any clear focal point or sense of direction. You have composed it with symmetrical balance. You have physically balanced areas of visual interest by drawing an imaginary line down the middle, and putting equal amounts of 'visual weight' on either side. Now I can hear some people saying "The photo is clearly the point of more visual interest becuase it is larger and recognisable'. That may be eventually true, but you have balanced it symetrically by putting a small object of less 'weight' with another small object, to produce balance with a combined power of the two small objects. They act as a group and the photo acts on its own. So I think that in general this composition is symetrically balanced. It is of course partly asymetrical becuase it isn't a mirror image.
It is balanced, however It seems apparent to me that these objects have been used more for their decorative qualities... This is good, but in my opinion it shouldn't dominate. Maybe that is why I cannot see the meaning, message, theme or description within this composition. Simply because they look decorative.
This makes it 'static' as I mentioned earlier. Whenever I approach a wallpaper I think 'dynamic'. Something that has an powerful and moving force.
Try to construct your composition with a clear purpose, and that should usually be to illustrate the point of the piece, and to create movement and therefore provoke an active and thoughtful viewing by an audience.
well I rambled a bit there, but it helps me too whenever I schpiel. It kinda helps me realise and consider things.
Heck its pretty cool overall. Just think about some of those things next time.
Keep it up! |
