dear people,
well i need some advice, heres my situation -
ive been studying in a media course for 2 years now, and recently after not doing very well in some of my subjects... i relaised that im not exactly interested in what im doing. i realised that my passion lies in creating art, be it drawings, sketches, computer graphics, 3d animations whatever... i love doing these and i just skecth away during lectures whenever im bored (i bet lots of u do that as well :> )
well, the problem is whether i should change my course! ive realise that i dont like wat im doin, but im already done 2 years... should i just stay on for the last year or so and finish my course? or should i stop doing my course and transfer into a design school?
would i be wasting 2 years of my time by changing course now? would it be an even more waste of time to stay on and finish up the course to get my diploma? basically its these things that've been bothering me... im been really confused as to what to decide on lately...
well mebbe this is not the place to ask something like this, but well i just wanted to hear some opinions of other people... sorry for the long rant guys. thanks to all who respond beforehand!

IMHO you should finish. It is better to have a diploma than to have none. If you're not successful in getting a job as artist.. and btw it is quite common that you DO NOT get a job if youre not:
1) incredibly lucky and know someone who knows someone...
2) a GREAT ARTIST, FLEXIBLE, CREATIVE and have a good feeling what your employer wants to see from you.
If you have your diploma you have some sort of security and you can start the art school after that as well. This is what I think at least-

Nex is right... You should finish your diploma- if you drop now you will have waisted all this time and money for nothing-I assure you will regret it ... Besides you can do a master diploma afterwards in a course you are interested in... |

2 years ago i was doing comp sci and history at the University of Victoria. I dropped it all for art school here ins eattle. Moved countries, changed totally what i was doing. Let me tell u, if i had stayed at UVic i probably would have been a complete failure as a student, person and wouldnt be a happy person.
Art school has taught me about my passion, and i love class everyday, and i draw and sketch in clkass, and they encourage it
Do what u feel makes u happy, but one thing's for sure, in the computer gamming industry, no one cares what your education, is, all they care about is, if u did goto school did u finish it, the only thing my degree is gunna be good for is another piece of paper to draw on...the rest of it is all what i can plug into my portfolio

Axid my fren, I think Nex has a point over there and you really should finish your study like he says. I had a situation almost like you, only I study Economics. Before I realized that studying Economics has an advantage, I was really stressed out and frustrated. But now, I think I'm happy with my decision, though sometimes I really want to go to art school. I know it's easy to say but you just have to keep on fighting ! |
