My brother designed this chrome eagle for an Art Center class assignment in 82. I loved the concept and got his permission to refine the design and painted this illustration in 89.
Original 20"X40" or 50cmX100cm
Markers, pencils, air brush and acrylic. Computer was not used for this image

That looks really cool. It reminds me of SilverHawks the cartoon. Great rendering of the metal.

i think you have got the technical side of concept art (markers, acrylics etc) down.. totally down. i mean, the rendering is close to perfect, in this resolution at least.
but i also think that your designs are very 70s/80s.. don't know another way to describe it. they're mostly cool, sometimes very cool, but they always look, well, old-fashioned. like they were developed based on the technologies of past decades. like the cars in total recall or running man.. or the stuff in battleship galactica or buck rogers. or thundercats.
i don't really know what's the cause of that, might be the chrome and the disco lighting. I would really like to see some your stuff in big, and i'd really REALLY like to see you try yourself at some more up-to-date designs.. hope you dont mind this little critique.. as i said, your technique is probably the best i've seen here. |

I think a cool design is a cool design no matter when it was done. I think the moment we start asking ourselves if our work is up with the times, is the moment we start loosing our originality. |

You seem to be a great artist, with a lot of experience under your belt, but it is really frustrating to see your work in such small resolution. It is so rich on detail, and contrast, that it becomes too clutered in such small size, making it very annoying to browse. I think a longer download time is a small price to pay for such great work, its a pitty you didn't design the site bigger |

Kaiju, Wyatt Turner and wayfinder:
Thanks for your comments and crits!
Wayfinder: Good observation! Many of the illustrations on my website were indeed done in the 80s. This chrome eagle and another chrome horse were both designed between 82-83.
The design trends nowadays seem to be in the retro mode. Who knows maybe chrome will be on its way back just like bell bottom pants and platform shoes.
I personally prefer tie dye mini skirts and hot pants! |

marker and acrylics?
silber wouldn't imagine that
this combination even works
silber still has a long way to go
silber likes the 80's -well some parts of them
it would be nice if you could post
your future pictures in a bigger resolution
-->if not on your site than maybe for the forum? |
