Hiya!
Here's a quick image of the reaper.
It all started when Niclas Lvblad (aka Slicer) and I were having a conversation a couple of days ago and I told him to draw a reaper. I ended up making one myself instead though... I dunno how his is coming, but I guess that we'll all find it here in the forums when it's done (right, Niclas? . This took about 40 minutes to paint. Crits and suggestions are very welcome.

What fun! I like the way the low hung sun and clouds suggest a malevolent eye. Good color and loose style too. Thanks for posting it. |

The scythe looks wrong. The pole shouldn't be straight, but curved. For example, take a look at this fella and his grim tool:
Children of Bodom's mascot: http://www.cobhc.com/images/kannet/followthereaper.jpg http://www.cobhc.com/images/kannet/hatebreeder.jpg
Putting aside the scythe, the picture looks quite nice. The colours are OK. The green in the eyes looks... interesting? I'd have picked a colour to them from the bright colours from the sky but that's just me.
Yeah, that's about it. I like the grim reaper-concept very much. |

Thrush - thank you very much
Slicer - I'm sure we'll find your grim reaper here. If you don't post it i'll make you to do it... hehe.
Staff Sarge - You're totally right about the scythe. But then again, I didn't put much thought (nor time) at all in the picture and I painted without reference, just for the fun of it. Good you mentioned it though, because now that I look at it it looks a little strange. The green in the eyes... hmmm... I dunno. I think I agree with you.
Bishop - Thanx!
btw. if anyone has got a grim reaper-pic just lying around, feel free to post it here. It would be nice to see all you other guys' interpretation of the Death
Thanx for the replies!

Nice pic, maybe the topmost cloud look a little flat or something..
Imho the scythe doesn't have to be curved..
sure it looks pretty cool.. but take a look at the cover of Emperors split EP with Enslaved, I think it's also cool:
I've made these pics in based on that cover:
I was in a good mood that day, so I made these as well:
the pics above (and some other stuff) can be found at this page:

alright, while I'm posting I might as well put up the url to my small page of saved Paintchat pictures:
http://metalfan.critical-depth.net/paintchat/
well, that's it
Cheers |

DarkStalker - that's naughty..
topeira - thanx! the pic is 100% photoshop. After I was done with the painting I overlayed a scanned in rough paper with low contrast. It works with almost anything and it can give a nice touch to your pic sometimes (at least it conceals some of the sloppyness... hehe). Once I used a scanned in hard bread.
metalfan - Thankyou! I checked out your collection of paintchat pics, and I must say that some of them looked very impressive.
I really like the first one of the two purple reapers, the one with the least contrast. I think it's the simplicity of the pic that makes it so good. I dunno.. it just captured me.
