Ever been lost in the woods? at night? Sometimes help comes in an unexpected form. Look closely to the ground, you just might get lucky and find someone to guide you through the darkness :)

Your birds have the most interesting character to them. I really liked all those sketches you posted with them a while ago. I enjoy seeing it well rendered. this piece really makes you feel the birds response. |

Gecko,
Whatever happened to the 500 paintings? Did that just fizzle out? |

that is an absolutely AWESOME image.
it looks like the bird has a huge fat cock though and is doing somebody with a bug on some weird part of their body.

Bloody amazing! I'm particularly taken with the second shot--the snaily thing turning into a flying thing, that is. (It IS the same snail, isn't it?)
I think my favourite part is the expression on the bird's face, though--that and its big clumsy hands. It's even better than that other bird you drew around Valentine's day, the one with the big, sad eyes....
I have absolutely no useful crits for you, I'm afraid. Just soggy adoration. This is really, really stunning. |

thanks for replying, I haven't been home for the past few days so this had already sunken to the 2nd page.
The makingfriends pic (dragon & animals) made me realize that I never really try to (can't) put different expressions on the characters, and that has to change. I think I succeeded with the bird not being able to look at the bright bug, and I'm going to try and put future characters in situations other than just sitting on a branch with 2 clumsy legs :].
simon: agreed, the sketch has much better values on the bird.
elijah: :):)
pox: done in photoshop, great to hear the photoshop-look is not so obvious on some of my later pics.
socar, haha thanks. Although it's not supposed to be a snail but a bug :). Flying snail... I need to steal that one ;). I still like the valentine's day bird more, but then it had more meaning as well.
A.Buttle, it's been pretty quiet with the 500 project, since after doing a hundred of them it no longer seemed as much fun, I need (and want) to do some more finished pics right now, but the 500 is so good practise I will continue it again.
synj, you are a sick sick person.
coll: good to hear about the colors, I tried to keep it interesting by varying them, could've done better though.
Jenn, it's not intentionally based on a real bird.. but now that I look at it a Kingfisher comes pretty close. Only with a smaller tail and stronger beak.
Thanks again, everyone. |
