Hi
I'm getting a lot of mileage out of those Hong Kong photos.
By the way, here's a link to the line art in case anyone is interested...

Hehe, cool stuff, but I don't think she blends in too well with the photo... too bright-ish, but I guess that's the style. =) Forget I said anything. =) |

Frost's comment about high-lighting is what struck me at first sight too. It's good you put the orange light from the back, and whitish light from the front.. but a bit too bright still. Very nice gun Though I think the figure would need a bit more dark shadows, of like the hand on the hip, fun on the shoulder..
Also, when I first read the topic, I thought it was some Street Fighter arcade thing, "High Kick, Medium Punch" ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Heh, SPF 20. Nice touch. Great image, Francis. I really like your Shirow influenced stuff (i.e. girls+mechanical stuff)Are those hot pants army issue? |

Great motive, very original
I noticed that the design of the gun dosen't make sense (I'm such a geek :P). Why does it have that huge ammobox on the stock when it's belt fed from the side? It's damn cool anyway, very Shirow in a way. |

Hot damn! Yeah, she'll need that sunblock. I like the softness you gave her body, but maybe her outfit and helmet could have sharper specular highlights. |

Thanks for the feedback!
Frost - that's a good point. I think it's hard to really pull off a blend of photo and cartoony drawing like this, but for some reason I keep trying.
Snake - good ideas - it definitely could use more cast shadows and lighting. It is a little bright for the nighttime setting. That's funny about the title.
daz199 - thanks.
Eviltoylet - (sorry, too lazy to pay attention to which letters to capitalize) yes...
ZakatH - thank you. I'll make more.
FFnex - yeee. Thank you.
A. Buttle - I saved the breast for last.
Cos - har har.
Shinshot - yes, I highly recommend it.
Dino - I agree - the background is not 100% successful.
Gimbal8 - thank Ron Lemen for the SPF idea. I thought it was funny when he came up with it, so I had to put it in. I like women and machiens, too. I'm not sure about the pants - most likely not.
Joysuke - Yes! I guess you would know. Tsim Hsia Tsui was my favorite neighborhood - most of my photos are from there. I wish you could have shown us where to get the good dim sum though - we did not have very good luck with food.
Joachim - me too. Yes, better shadows are needed. We just finished a big deliverable for the new project, and are waiting to hear back from the publisher about it, so a lot of us are sort of on standby. Myst 3 shipped yesterday in the U.S., but unfortunately not until September for Europe. How about you guys?
Gux - here is my BS explanation: The gun is a railgun. Since the kinetic energy of the projectile results from the magnetic field rather than an explosion, there is not a lot of "recoil" to deal with. The box that looks like an ammo box on the end is the power source, basically a big battery, which is connected to two conducting rails placed inside the length of the gun, with a cooling element (the vented box) in the front. The ammo is a belt fed caseless variety, with an electrically conducting integral shell (the gold part) with a number of different available tips (i.e. hollow point, armor piercing, etc.). I just made them red to go with her nails.
Sedone - yes, I agree. I might have to go back and work on this some more after the comments. |

great work on this one. Also, I'm glad you had the gun all thought out like that. Too often people draw without thinking it through and that's when you get a drawing that dosn't acheive the realism the artist may have been going for. I really like the soft edges on the skin as mentioned before. |
