Here's my first ever digital painting. It is my homework from my first photoshop class at the local technical institute. I've included my reference and a few progress shots all in one pic. The instructor wanted us to try out as many photoshop tools as possible - so yes there's dodging and burning.
Other than that - I would really like suggestions, comments or critiques to help improve on my next pic.
Thanks,
Radiater.
ps. I still have to do a background by Saturday and can therefore do some touchups.

What smells in here? :B
Fishy seems kind of sharp at the edges, no? The lower belly fin(Nice techincal term.) seems like the skin is coming out at the different edge colors. Maybe a little smothing out of the black and orange on that would help.
Only other thing I had a beef with, was the little flipper. On the fish refereance the flipper has quite a long part of it being transparent. You didn't seem to have that in there.
Looks prettys Snazzy though, any back ground or other fishies come'n?

Thanks jHof,
Appreciate your comments. Does anyone else have any comments before my fish drifts into the deep ocean?

Hiya Radiater
I really think for your first digital picture, this is wonderful Some things though, that I might point out..
The colour scheme that you are using is very simaliar to the referance picture used, but, it looks to me as though it's still a little dull.. You might want to try and get some even stronger colours in there- and it might work a little more
Also, The back tail fin looks to be a tad blotchy to the one in the refernce picture, you might want to try and make the markings a little more smoother.. if you get what I mean
Apart from that, I think it's a really really good first off for your first digital painting, Keep up the good work!!
-Luci
(P.s. - I wouldn't worry about the number of replies that stneil777 got and the amount of replies that you got - Half of them were flaming, More than half.. I wouldn't worry, as long as you get some good crit/comments in your thread and they actually help you, rather than flame you ) |
