um i looked at your site and well... u gots a lot to work on. Ill just crit the lara croft pic a lil.
ummm... les see.1st. The shading looks like u jus took a stub and went everywhere without knowing actuall places to put them in. 2nd: u say that your style is more american comics? Well in comics u MUST pencil as if it were inked. In this pic, u draw the folds on the sweater darker.. no no no, u cant do that. (unless u were to color it straight right now, so as to see shades of color.....nah). 3rd: the lines arent sharp enough. Work on your contrast. and dont be afraid to finish the pic.
jus a lil advice.
good job tho,

Higher highlights, lower shadows..just to give some more tonal quality.
It looks like you referenced the Angelina-Tombraider promo piece...that's okay, but you'll need to work on the face a bit. I did up these tones in two minutes, so they aren't sharp, but your facial structure was the one thing I noticed as being weak.
Burne Hogarth's series of "Dynamic" books might be a great place to start if you want to do comic penciling. As well, a nice copy of Gray's anatomy around tends to help if you're unclear on face muscle structure.
Hope it helps...it's a good start..keep going

hmm seems to be a bit of a missunderstanding. The pics on teh site really aren't aimed to be comic book type pics. when i said i like american comic style, i meant to say that i prefer american comic style over anime and manga...
the pencil pics i currently ave up are not really aimed to be any kind of comic book style at all. those pics are basically just pencil shadding pics i've don't in my art classes/free time. i have no plans to ink/color any of these sketches, currently.
i think the reason that the contract on the pic isn't very good is due to my scanner... i compared the original and the scan, and the original has a lot darker values. i agree that the face does need work- but i just wanted to keep it simple, so-s not to take away from the feminem look of jolie's face.
you guys seem to be replying like this is a work-in-progress... well its not. its just a pen & paper sketch that took me an hour to make... sort of a way to practice my blending and shadding techniques. thought it looked cool so i decieded to use it as an example of my pics
thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming. |
