Francis:: Ghandi was a super-callused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

Works better.

Perspective seems a bit off on the wall on the left. Like, it's too thick, or it's at an angle or something.

Other than that, kickin'.

Love your painting Francis-hope you won't mind the 5 minute paint over too much.

I just had to. I didn't remember what his mask looked like though-got his tie though! :]

Looks good Francis. Now raise the ambient a little so we can see the rest of the figure. Not too much, maybe just some really big shapes that could even be differences in local value and materials within the suit.

You are still thinking logically about the white wall structures in the middle ground. Would you see every turn of the forms or would some be lost? That is one of the hardest things about painting from your head. Some changes of form are really lost and you can simplify them into bigger shapes, with little or no indication of how they join. You did this great in the figure, maybe a little too much. Painting from life, or even photos can help with learning how to simplify.

"no line drawing" meaning straight up drawn on the computer or you painted over the line and we can't see it now?
either way it looks great.
I like the concept, too.

In the vein of what Spooge was saying(very well I might add), if you loosen up and don't worry about so much structure as far as defining walls and hollows so much right away-just let it get messy, find shapes, start to define those shapes, and sometimes those shapes will blend into one shape. I dunno about Craig, but in my own meager work I had a habit of trying to define all the shapes and such in the background right away, worrying about perspective, etc. I wasn't realizing that in doing so I was limiting myself to overly-simple shapes. Now I look at the composition of the pic first, what, generally, I want in it, the mood, and the colors. And so from this swirling mass I can pull ideas. A blank canvas is horrible for creativity, but a messy one's great, and once you get used to that you can begin to try to control it again. At least, it's been improving my work a lot(looong way to go of course :] .

Cos - you may be right - there does seem to be too much light on it.
Skeezer - originally a lightsaber, but I decided to go against expectations (a little at least)
burn0ut - thanks!
A. - I will go edit - thanks for the suggestion.
impaler - it's thick, but other than that, should be OK - just a simple one point perspective.
Anthony - that cracked me up. Nice work.
Dean - eh, it's not the greatest background - worried a little too much about the perspective and not enough about what would look cool behind him (her?).
spooge - thanks, very helpful. I will try to have those comments in mind the next time I do this.
agent44 - straight into Photoshop, starting with rough shapes.
digitalmar - I think so; I read his comments the same way.
Anthony - good ideas, I will keep them in mind for sure.

Thanks everybody.

Awesome design on the figure Francis. I haven't reached the "no line drawing" level yet. Just gotta keep at it . . .

About what Spooge said: Does he mean you rendered the wall edges too much? That they are too defined?
