That nose needs to be better acclimated. It looks like it is about to float off the face. Try pushing or tucking it in more at the bottom. The perspective is somehow wrong on it.

Otherwise very nice drawing and good technique. And you do look high, too much red in the whites of those eyes.

Ian: Thanks, the ref is a graphite sketch I've done for Foundation class

mellowsmoothe: the whole high look is purely coincedence

daz199: thanks!

sirstudlymodugal: You are correct about the nose, thanks for pointing that out. I've also whitened the eyes a bit -- not too much.

Jeremy, nice painting. I like your stuff. You pay a lot of attention to texture and to mood.

For me, most of the time, doing a self portrait is about looking further and further. Finding color and shape that you usually gloss over.
These are couple of my favorite portrait painters. You probably know them.

Wow, Liquid2k has taken example of Geocities!!!

Very neat portrait, I especially like those strokes on your right cheek.
I think the shadow on your head isn't exactly right on your forehead yet, though.

GreenPeach: Thanks, especially for the links. When I first came across Lucian Freud, I was shocked by the way he treated his subject matter -- humans twisted into unreal positions, like slabs of meat. His work is unsettling, but it appeals to the visceral senses.... I'll certainly keep him in my bookmarks.

Resistanz: Liquid2K is replacing my HOME account, server is hell. You could be right about the shadow, I think the shape isn't correct.

Chuck Close is so awesome. He is my favorite artist who is still living. He had a show in D.C. not to long ago with his photographs. God I'd love to meet him.

Oh and the selfportrait pic... ummm... I like your colors and the way that the red looks like a watercolor wash.
Chuck is the man,
