I finally decided to install and have a go at "Painter Classic" that was incuded with my wacom. I never used it in the past because I always considered it inferior to Photoshop. So I didn't bother. It may not have the main advantages that photoshop has, but it does have one kick ass set of painting tools. This goes alot further than PS's plain old airbrush/paintbrush. My favourite is the watercolour brush. It gives a pretty convincing marker pen effect. Hence this picture.
I used one of Feng's line art for practising, until one thing lead to another! I did some touching up in Photoshop. But 90% of it was done in Painter.

...and Feng's original:

Hope you don't mind Feng.

cheers!

I think the white smudge/overlay thing in the upper right on top of the end of the weapon adds a lot, lighting and mood-wise...

Thanks for the tip Kellusion! Very useful. I've used Photoshop for a while but never knew about that. Gives me an idea for the discussion board

Yeah, you could probably pass that off as a sketch done with cool grey Prismacolors.

Hi guys!

PandaX52: Thanks. Yeah I like that effect. It's a mild lensflare in Photoshop. The problem with lensflare is it's so difficult to position on the image because the sample screen is so small. Not sure if they've changed that for PS 5+.

TheMilkMan: Cheers. The watercolour tool in painter is so much fun to use. I really wish Photoshop had brushes like these so I can do everything in the same program.

justh thought i might be helpful for a sec.... if you make a layer on top of everything, then fill it black and put the lens flare on that layer and change the layer mode to screen... voila a movable lense flare.... yeah i know it's kinda cheap, but it works whenever i need a lense flare ...

nice coloring job btw

Freddio: Thanks. I fixed the knee closer to the original sketch.

ProcyonNine: cool! cheers! I tried real markers once but was never good at using them. I'm glad I can pull of this effect digitaly.

Count Zero: Yeah me too! Those big chunky boots look awsome!
