If you think of all the words from the
"typical 80's slang" the only word that
has a lasting affect is "awesome".
you got
Gnarly
Tubular
Radical or Rad
Bodacious
Excellent
Choice
I'm blank on the rest.
Help me out.
Thanx to Bill, Ted, and
the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
for these memories.
Awesome still rules slang.
Just read the forum for awhile
and it's obvious.
I say it all the time too. |

what about 'larry'? thats pretty contemporary/suburban.
meaning a complete retard, as in: 'check this fuckin larry out, sheeeit. what a larry. his actions are foreign and seem rather larry-like to me, a mere suburbanite.' |

I know.
Thats why I asked if it belonged there.
Rather than the other words.
Even if awesome wasn't a slang word to
begin with.
And roundeye
I never heard that one. |

maybe its some kind of canadian thing. "rad to the max" is great. or "Xtreme," with a capital "X" because it looks cooler. |

I'm trying to bring 'radical' back. So far I've concived my friends to use it. It'll only be a matter of time before it's back...
Anyway, I'm Australian, and there's quite a bit of suburban slang that American's don't know. The other Aussies here will know some more that I don't, since I haven't been here for very long (a long story).
Mint - cool. "Aw, that's mint!"
Mad - cool. "A mad TV show!"
Sweet - "I did sweet on that exam!"
Stubby - small bottle of beer.
Sangers - sandwich
Reckon - think. "I reckon it's nice."
Swoit - same as sweet.
Mate - friend.
Dog - ugly chick.
Some of those are probably used in America, too, but that's about all I can think of at the moment

we have beer here in Olympia
called(duh) Olympia Beer.
and they have Oly Stubbies.
I can't think of another beer company that
does though.
I always thought "samitch"
was the universal slang for sandwich.
and my dad's name is Larry. |

It's gnarly because that's how it is spelt.
That is kinda like saying: "knife? why with a k? why not nife?" ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Hey, I say 'tight' and 'coolio' but I do not live in the ghetto, nor am I a minority. Yes, they did develop in the ghetto, perhaps... or possible in a suburb full of rich white kids that thought they were in a Ghetto...
Now I wonder what the point of my posting this was...
*edit* typos... perhaps I should call upon the Doctor... Pepper, that is.

I still say "rad" once in a while, and people always ridicule me for it.
They're just jealous of how rad i am. |

hey Chris um well lets see, I am not a rich white kid from the suburb who thinks I'm in the ghetto. I'm definately not rich and I live near an indian reservation where the population is about 200. I am a minority here. And there's nothing wrong with the words but if you think about it what sense do they make? I dunno I used to say coolio, not tight though cuz what is tight. Is it tight like tight pants. Oh well. ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |
