This is my first little "black and white" picture. I hope and feel this is a good way to learn how to understand light and volume. So I'm going to do more of these. Hopefully it'll go in the right direction.

Criticism and comments are very welcome. I really need them. I know Micke has done a bunch of these, and I'd be grateful for any help.

hey, thast pretty cool. Hmm i would try to defien the light source a bit better, o nthe shirt, it looks like light is coming from the top right, but then on his face its coming from above, veyr confusing to me, but very stylish and unique too!

Thank you, I can see the problem now. Will modify the shadows somewhat. I also need to focus more on folds and clothing.

I think Dryfire said what anyone else was thinking.

Its not a bad pic over all but yes a little lighting refinment and youve got a great pic.

do some more..

I know that I have a tendency to work a picture to death.. meaning Ill want to tweak the picture almost to the point where I just have to leave it and move on.

Hey there Looks very nice!
I did a quick paintover. Must be my first art post in a long time.
I expanded the canvas a bit and took away some of the black areas in order to make it.
more simple. Try to think of a photograph with a very high contrast. Only the strongest shadows will show. Maybe this can help:/ I'm in a little rush, but i could come back and explain more.

I managed to screw up the face, though:/

Awetopsy- Thanks for saying that. Yeah, I have that problem too, so on this one I tried to limit the work. Make it as simple as possible. Only it got too simple, that's the problem. Thanks though.

Micke- Whoa! Thanks alot for doing that paintover. That helps a great deal, and as an additional bonus I feel like an idiot because you made it look a 1000 times better. Hehe. But I really appreciate it.

I'll give it a second go, then.

Well, A quick refinement after getting help. It kinda looks like Micke's repaint, but it's not. I'm just learning the technique. I'm also moving on from this picture, because I want to try a new one. But here it is. A 15 minute refinement. I still think Micke's looks better. Hehehe. Damn you, Micke.

btw.. ignore the bottom part.. I thought I'd go for the cape variant.
