Basically just me having fun. Although this time I do feel I have struck on something that I really enjoy doing. So you can expect more of this kind of 'art'. Crits more than welcome as usual...

(oh-yeah! A picture of Isabella Adjani was used for some very very loose reference.)

The mood came out real nice. I like the charcoal action. I also like the contrast of the socks.
The style does kinda look like MsKean's Sandman images. |

love it, this is really cool boom love the lighting and subtlety in the shading, anatomy looks good too, something reminds me of fabry again. To crit I'd say the hands look a little odd. |

heh, I guess that makes it;
Jennifer Lopez's Alice.
Looks good. Painter certainly immitates traditional stuff pretty well don't it.

Nex - thx.
Frost - Thx. And yes, it's most certainly digital. Done in Painter - pretty straightforward with the charcoal and erasor tools. No secret tricks.

wow, very differant. It's nice but concidering my idea of your skill level I think you could improve it by working on the hands and face a little more. Of course the hardest part. |

It's wonderfull. Reminds me a bit of Dave Mckean's pictures of the "Sandman", if you know what i mean (The hair and eye and general moodiness).

i agree with burnout - that in one huge ass there!!
maybe black ppl like it but us on the forum.
and i think if u add a stain of blood on the knife and beneath it it could give the impression she has just done something horrible and leave the rest of the story to the imagination so it'll be more intersting to think about the pic later on.

Very nice BooM!
I like the combination of texture and cross hatching.
Good to see someone taking advantage of Painter's exciting tools.
I've made some doodles with the sargent and impressionist brushes, these are very exciting! Try 'em out.
I can agree with the others on the wide ass issue

wow. lotsa replies
Greenpeach - yes, you are right. especially the hands could use an extra hour or two... The head turned out pretty much as I envisioned it... But theres allways room for improvement, I know.
Seagull - thx.
Rick - hmm. I like Mckean, so I'll take that as a compliment.
Geelimp - Actually I had the same argument with my girlfriend who said the same thing as you. I don't really know why I put it there, but at the time it just felt right, and would help tell a story...
Cos - thx, my friend
Burnout - It really looks that big???
Muzman - thx. yes Painter kicks ass!
Tayete - thx. I like this way of working as well, so you can very well expect more to come...
Tenuki - thx.. and welcome to the forum...
Ax0 - hehe... Your're right, those weins aren't very feminine, but I really didn't want to do a nice looking female. I wanted someting twisted, sinister looking. Something right out of Tim Burtons mind, I guess...
Simon G - thx.
Toast - thx. I believe the pic was from some photosession and not a movie..
Toperira - Well, I wanted to tell a story and make people think what would come next. Putting blood on the knife would make people think what already did happen. See the difference?
Ko - Thx bro. I def. will try out other tools, eventually... There are so many and it takes a lot of time to get the most out of each one...

How about letting her hold the knife instead. Wouls give the image a double meaning considering the title. |

meek_scb - maybe in the next one Usually when I name my pictures I just write down the first thing that pops into my head, so I really don't thing 'cornered' is the best choice for a title to this pic... And welcome to the boards... Heh - funny to have two newcomers posting first post in your thread... wierd :/

Hey - very nice. Nice tone and texture. Is it conte?
I like the overall feeling - and the things I'm going to crit are helping with the mood, so they might be intentional, but if not -
You might want to concentrate on the anatomy of the hands next time - they are quite large and claw like. Especialy the hand under the chin - the wrist is very bulbous as well.
Her nose is quite long, pushing the mouth to the very bottom of the face, and the eyes are high and wide.
Now both these things look cool as they are, and do make her look strange and moody....so ignore me if you choose....!
Thanks for posting the great pic!

Softman - thx. another first poster
marc_taro - thx. Sorry for being ignorant but I don't know what conte means.... =/
You're right about the hands. I should have paid more attention to them... Somehow I often feel myself rushing through hands; maybe because they are among the hardest parts to get right? The face on the other hand I wanted to look less realistic to get contrast between the rest of the figure wich is fairly realistic and the more toony head. To me it makes the picture more 'twisted' which was what I was after... hope this makes sense...

now dat's a spicy style! there's some crazy small detail, I love it, what res is the full one? always glad to see someone willing to really make their own art out of digital possibilities and not just airbrush or spooge brush |

I was about to say put some blood on the knife.
I got the feeling she just stabbed her husband or something .. but then i realised just as you posted above.. Don't put blood on the knife.. the "story" behind the picture is better this way.
As an old "non-digital-coal-user" i love it. Maybe one should try painter out. Still learning photoshop and i heard it's a tough walkover from psp to painter though.
