Whoa, have you ever painted with traditional media? (sorry, I'm not sure if it's medium or media, I think it's media.)
That looks very very nice. |

Thanks for the comments.
I drew a fair ammount in my teens, but no, I haven't had any traditional painting experience, or much digital for that matter. This is only the second "painting" I've done since I got my tablet, and my first real try in painter. So any tips or pointers would be appreciated.

First, I like it.. Second, though I love empty and negative spaces, I think that the vast blackness here sure focuses the attention on the sky but makes a high contrast impression.. (Of course, that will depend on the screen and the resolution but the sky on my screen is realllllly coloured.) The pict is almost abstract. If it's the goal, yeah, it's great :) If not... maybe you should play with this dark area and use a different colour, a textured lavender of some sort..
Anyway, it's a cool pict to see on a sunday morning when you wake up :p thanks !

Love the sky, but I think the picture looks better overall if you crop a strip of black off the bottom, almost up to the lake. Makes the sky become most of the painting, which is what you've done in terms of detail anyway.
Also, there is something about the lake that looks a little bit slanted to me, as though it weren't flat...can't quite put my finger on it...

Small update because I wasn't happy with the pond, as eric mentioned (hehe it's a pond not a lake!) So I straightened it out and added in some plants and shit for scale.
Horizon is meant to be off int he distance too, and I decided to make it a little smoother to reflect that.

On a completely unrelated note -- I just quit my job. |

very nice work. looks like real oil painting. easy to see it was done in painter cuz of it's "traditional" look.
