.. well actually blue, green and yellow.

I thought I might wipe off the thick layer of dust on my wacom and make some doodles- this is one of those

it was done on painter classic and THE GIMP.

I realize there are some problems with this picture due to bad planning.. it lacks a focal point and the composition is not very strong etc-

feel free to point other errors out to me, write me long hate messages or send me money - thanks :]

I feel that the lightning on the sky and on the rock doesnt fit together.. will a 'yellow' overcast sky make so blue shadows ? I also have trouble with the ground.. Is it water ? snow ? or fog ?
The contrast between rock and ground is very high in the left I think

now, without the ground and sky the rock rocks great texture and detail.. I love the right part where the rock is in shadow. marvellous doodle!

How is the Gimp ? and is there a demo ?

This is a great start.

To add a focal point, you can add explorers/characters to the snowy background. Maybe they are sitting around a camp fire -- or, marching off. If you add torches, the firey-red will make a great contrast against the blue.

Good work!

geelimp: the ground was supposed to be fine sand, i think its probably too bright.
Thanks for the comments, I didn't spend much time to think about color, probably I should have.

The Gimp is freeware and can be downloaded at http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32//
its a pretty neat program.. especially at big image sizes in my opinion.

Painted Melody: I tried characters but somehow the compsition still looked very forced. I'll scrap that one and will consider the ideas and advice in the next picture. thanks.

the pict. is cool, but let me help you a little. i like the blue snow and the blue rocks so stick with blue. make the sky a tone of blue and if it is going to be a dark omnious pict. and some huge tempest-ridden clouds. and make them all a blue tone. but i think the idea of adding some travellers with red torches would be the icing on the cake...or the snow...he he. it looks good for a starting idea though.

mellowsmoothe: hmm I have a problem with huge tempest-ridden clouds> I can't paint them well, so I better leave that out for now.
I will not work on this any more, i see too many errors in it already but thanks.

S4Sb: a mech huh? hmm.. will probably be my next picture :]

Cos: yes, thanks, the rocky area to the left looks like its aged molten rubber and not much like stone.
Thing is that I don't see those errors until I see the pic posted here.. then they almost jump into my eyes :]

Nex: Nice work here, the attention to detail on the rocks is excellent. I do think though that the main problem is depth. There's a sense that the rocks don't go back much. This might be to do with perspective, though you say you didn't do much planning here. All the same, you keep the dust off that wacom...

Very cool stuff, the only problem is you can't really make up on what scale it is. The rocks are a job well done, but with such big, short crankles (?) they look a bit tiny.

ceenda: perspective and depth are my arch enemies :] I have to practice way more, thanks

ReSistanZ: thx, yeah- i really should do thumbnails and plan pictures before i begin, because i never have any ideas after i make the first stroke any more.
