First, thanks to the people who responded to the guitar poses I posted in WIP.
Hmm... What happened to Saturday? Oh yeah, I spent the whole day on w/photoshop and my wacom
I know I should let this sit a day, then do fixes, but why not post and get comments anyway?
Same URL as below, if the pic doesn't show up try this.
http://www.geocities.com/parityarm/guitar.htm
No overall pic reference, references were used for most single elements, but I made changes when drawing all of them to try to fit the pic.
Crits/Comments/Anything very welcome
Thanks -JK
This is just the same guitar pic in the thread, I could put some In Progess steps of the pic up on that page if there is any interest. Oh, and there's also a rough digital sketch I did that I thought I'd share, maybe I might try turning this one into a digital painting.

Well, it's been almost a day, and I spent quite a few hours on this pic, (and there's another pic in this thread, linked) so I guess I'm allowed one of these:
Anybody? Anything?
[edit] Checked it from a few other computers and I have a feeling Geocities isn't loading it a lot of time, so it isn't showing up for people.

Hey Krueze,
Some good stuff here, nicely rendered. If this were a photograph though, I'd crop off the left third of the picture with the background guitar player. It would move the front guy out of the middle of the picture and into the left third. I think this composition would help make it more interesting. In my opinion, it would give viewers more pause to think about who he might be seranading.
Hope that's constructive.

i like it
and i also like the guy on the left.
i bet u used a reference picture for that. i'd like to see those.
anyway it's nice but i think those naked trees in the BG are too scary. i think it could be better if u added a more "romantic" object in the BG like a building or a castle or something.
good work.

I saw this in WIP. I like the painted look on this one. I think that maybe you should blur the trees and the moon a bit, to create a depth of field effect. They look very crisp and take some attention away from the musos.

Thanks for the comments so far. The pic didn't load for me at all this time, I think I need to scrap Geocities.
I like to hear what people think when they see the image, it wasn't meant to be a serenade specifically. I tried to leave interpretation open ended. Maybe he's a romantic hero figure with a guitar serenading a woman. Maybe there is a paying audience at an outdoor show, and he's a guitar hero as in virtuosso perfomer (eg. Eric Clapton.) Maybe the background symbolizes a place where the music takes you. Originally I was thinking more the Eric Clapton/ show type, then decided I wanted to try something a little more mysterious and surreal. The trees were inspired because that's what I saw glancing out my window (winter here, maybe I'll try blocking in some leaves) And Pink Floyd - Wish you were Here was playing on my mp3list, which has a light sound of wind blowing outside in the background.
I tried to use lightness and saturation (darker and less saturated) for depth. With a dark image like this monitor brightness callibration makes it appear quite differently between computers and loses sublety. The moon was a quick airbrushing, but yeah, I think I need to do something to make it standout less, (blurring/less saturated/darker...)
I did think about cropping off some of either the left or the right side of the composition, but I can never bring myself to get rid of work I did that looks decent to me
