I have read a review of this movie in August, but it was never played in my local theatres. But recently one theatre started to show it. I finally saw it last weekend, and it was awesome.. it reminds me of my high school gradulation and the following summer. Anyone who has seen that probably would have the strongest impression about some remarks in the film about art.
For example, there is a piece of poster from the 30's featuring some african-american man with filthy teeth and fat lips. A girl brought it to school, and everyone says "It's offensive, it has nothing to say." etc. etc. But instead they root for a piece of "found object" art that features a tea cup and a tanpon.
That part is really identical to some of the arguments people have been having, one of them being people are awed by things they don't undersrand. A lot of people thinks "Ooh, I don't understand this piece of artwork, so it must be 'deep'." I would like to know what you think of that statement.
Well? |

Ha! I just got done watching this movie on a cd a friend passed on to me. I was suprised to see a thread on this!
I think it's a great movie, I could really relate to the characters. I felt a real connection with the main character and the man who collected records...in that kind of "introverted, socially inept, yet painfully aware of all the screwed up things in the world" sort of way.
I really liked the ending, the whole thing just kind of fell apart. It made the audience feel the confusion and discombobulation of the lives the movie was following...
great movie. |

I like the ending too. It really makes you think about if there is a place in the world for a weird person. And the last song goes so well with it. |
