I was just wonderin', what do you guys think about all the recent anthrax scares? Do you think that it is complete overkill paranoia? Or, do you think that all the fuss is warranted?
More importantly, do think this is just to stretch America's resources while a much larger attack is launched?
I'd have to say I'm leaning towards the latter. |

Pretty scary shit, seeing as how we haven't had a real anthrax scare in close to 30 years, with the only real case popping up about 5 years ago. They found the militant conspirators with a big jar of the stuff.
This makes me wonder if this is all really domestic stuff and not Sir Sabre Shaker bin Laden.. |

Releasing anthrax in the way that's been happening recently is not too bright if you wanna wipe out the states. It's not even contagious. If you just wanna scare a few people... then sure, it works. Personally I think it's groups of individuals doing it. If terrorists really wanted to wreak some havoc they'd dump a tub of ebola in the drinking water :P It is very creepy though... biological warfare scares me far more than any bomb :/ |

It's scary.
I'd be more scared if it was something contagious like smallpox or something.
We currently have enough antibiotics (Cipro) to treat 5 million anthrax victums in this country. But you've got to figure, if someone was to say....use a crop duster to spread anthrax spores on a large metropolitan area. It would be so hard to contain that we would almost definitely have some serious trouble treating and caring for that many victums.
So yes, I'm a tad scared.
But hell, I live in Arizona. Nobody cares about messing with this dirt hole.
Then again, you never know.

I'm glad you guys share my fear. :/
The most recent development linking the real-estate agent to the editor at AMI is rather scary to me. The FBI claims it is a complete coincidence at this point, but the FBI also claimed that we don't have to worry about bioterrorism a few weeks ago. I fear for my life. :P
Heh CT2001, Arizona is guess isn't a likely target, but I live in Canada, so I know how you feel. Our leader can't even speak properly let alone protect his nation from terror. I'm thinking of renting a new government for our country for a bit. We're too polite and wimpy We'd all just cry a lot and drink maple syrup if we had a major biological scare.
Mmm.. syrup.

The cases seem to pretty isolated thus far. Mainly on the east coast. But it's enough to scare people _a lot_. There was a news report last night about how a lot of people were calling haz. mat. teams to check things out. They all turned out to be false alarms which is good but in the long run those teams are going to get tired and it could happen at the worst time.
Thats what I'm worried about... |

Apparently weaponsgrade anthrax has never been successfully aerosolized, or it's supposedly VERY difficult to do, so I guess if you believe that, a major attack using cropdusters etc is unlikely. This could be why the terrorists are just sending it in letters - they failed to aerosolize it. Let's hope so anyway. Austin (where Bush used to be governor) could conceivably be one of the targets...
I have to say, compared to all the other shit we could imagine them doing, this is a pretty lame attempt so far. |

My mom works for the postal service in Nevada, near where the Microsoft letter ended up . . . she handles so much mail . . . I've been pretty worried the past few days. |

If you look at the problem rationally, it's obviously nothing to be worried about at all. 40,000 people die in car accidents every year in the US alone. Right now it looks like the total number of anthrax related deaths will not climb above 1.
Personally i'm more worried about being hit by lightning twice in quick succession, and then while unconcious accidently say something that is interpreted as a racial slur, causing me to be beaten to death by a bunch of angry french-canadians. |
