The original was an image I did a year ago. I never liked my first take on it so I thought I would give it an revamp it a bit.

I like the way you did that skin texture...looks very wet and slimy. Maybe you could decrease the amount of contrasted ares and make bigger areas of light and dark that are more obvious from the lightsetting ?
but, good work

Thanks Joachim.
Lighting is something I have been trying to learn lately.
This is just one of the many techniques I've been experimenting with.
I'm not sure I follow what your saying.
Do you mean I should block in some light and dark colors first?

What Joachim meant translated to me as something like this:
The orc has very universal lighting or whatever the word is, light coming from all over, the helmet, however, has a bright source of light coming from our right.
I tried to put in some shadows and lights to make it equal on the face, but as you might have seen in my posts, i tend to go way overboard with my lights.

Thanks for that Gecko. I like your overpaint. I found it very helpful.

I don't know exactly how orcs are supposed to look, but it just seems to me that his head should be a bit longer on the top, just a personaly opinion, everything else is great though!. |

i would incrase the overall size of the head ( looks kinda small to me ) Second version by Gecko looks a lot better, more shadows and contrast etc, give the pic more life.
the overall character design really reminds me of "LORD OF THE RINGS" for some reason, the ORC would look really good in context, (maybe carrying a HOBBIT!!??)
anyway, good illustration
