I'm trying to whip together my portfolio finally. Starting out with a fresh batch of sequentials. Here is the first page I did. Linework is Ed McGuinness. This is from a Superman comic.. not sure what issue.

Thanks for the comments!
Capyn: Thanks, I'm actually not a big fan of ringo's artwork. Some panels his characters look normal (like the first 3) and then a majority of his stuff looks cartoony. Like the last panel with the chin from hell. |

hiya im ba-ack
its a nice page, but its flat. the backgrounds are too minimal, and the characters dont stand out too much.
when did you start airbrushing?
how long did that page take you?
i like some of the colors, like the skin tones, but making luthors jacket the same blue as the moon kinda takes away from it... maybe its just me
woo theres some crits
over all better than i could do probably, but yeah, youve done alot better hun.
p.s. since you ARE better than me, i ask of you to bestow the knowledge of how liquid does those damn cool moons! like in eve and stuff...

In the first panel, there is a shadow line across her face, but you added no shadow. Also, in the bg, add different color lights. I think there would be some yellow lights and flourescent based ones in there too. |

I agree with Akolyte: you are not respecting the shadows and edges that the penciller has put in his artwork. The main exanple is the line on the face, in the first panel. That looks bad honestly.
Then your light sources are all over the place: first panel the main light is coming from the left, so in the second panel it should come from the right (not the left). Third panel: how can the moon, which is high in the sky, lights his nostrils and his chin ???
Besides that I think it looks pretty flat, and this page is boring (pencils), so why choose that?
Really I don't like it. Sorry. |

The main lightsource is to the left and the window is to the right in the first and last panels. Luther is being lit up by the city more than the moon. I have to do 4 consecutive page. Its hard to find four high quality consecutive pages. |

Agree with what most folks have said, but if I may add...
I might try and tie your coloring/shading into the inking a bit more. Also, on the last panel, anatomically there's that funky thing, who's name fails me right now, that falls between the nostrils and the upper lips. Fulcrum? No...eh...
Good job! Ignore me!

pretty good. one thing though-- this isnt ringo. this is ed mcguinness
another thing-- the light from the moon is the same color light as the ambiant light in the room hitting his back. also the artist drew in where to put the shadows on the girl in the first panel.it looks as if you started following it, but just didnt get to the point of finishing. also, id like to see some stronger cuts in the piece. this is just a style prefernce though.
keep it up... hope to see more |

I went back and corrected the rendering on the first panel. Still going to make several changes I just don't have any time during the week to color.
Can Sumaleth of Dhabih move this to the work in progress section? |

I finished making my changes. Any better now?
By the way, I don't think Liquid! is going to post anymore... I'm not 100% sure, but we had some strange emails going back and forth. Hard to read people. On that note I'm going "offline" for an extended period of time. So, when this thread dies I'll be on my way. The message boards are just taking to much out of me.
I just wanted to say I appreciate the support and help from Joachim, Ron Lemen, and Rinaldo. Also, Thanks to everyone else here who I have replied to or received crits from. Good luck to everyone trying to make it big.
Drop me an email if you need to get in touch.
