Oh the values.... sight. I love these roughs of yours. Thanks for posting so frequently.
(Her neck seems a tad bit long.)

It has that Pre-Raphaelite quality. John Williams Waterhouse-ish. Very nice.

you have really been productive lately. I was exspecting to see a Sienkiewicz inspired elektra or something , but this is very different. Except some nitpicking about a bit too long neck, the picture is great. Love that blood on her body, and also the sunlight on the dead body behind her...I like how you lighten up the importand parts, like her hands, to get the story in.

Looks like she killed someone!
My teacher would do the same for me if I ever decided to crop anyone's fingers like that. So I'll just do that when she's not looking
I would imagine the weight of the blood would make the form of her body show more through the clothes. Also, that's one long neck. :]
The sunlit part looks great

Looks cool, but the hair line and the forehead bug me. Looks like they are too high and on a different angle than the face. |

Elektra? Isn't she suppose to be a porn star?
Nice values as usual -- the saturation level is lower than you usual pieces it seems... very matte, nice. =]
As mentioned, you've been very productive lately, that's great. Isn't work keeping you busy as of late?

I have the feeling that spooge does things on purpose like lack of attention to her hands ...the long neck...spooge is good enough to recognize these kinda mistakes??? The hands and lack of detail is just him being fast and scetchy...things like that dont bother me...I personaly wanted to see what it would look like with fixed neck
Hmm maybe spooge should put something like
5min scetch... that way when people are ( hmm I dont know )...it will be more like wow that took 5 mins!!!!!..something like that

I like the long neck... it makes her look graceful and menacing at the same time. Like she's always looking down on you - like she's a predator perched on a cliff watching you from up above somewhere.
Very cool

When i looked at the long neck, then the short, the short one looked like a squat-brutish woman. The long neck stays.
Spooge; I know everyone always says everything before I get here, but I'll just speak my mind. Your vision is brilliant. A lot of people, when they post their pictures have drawn or painted something that is simply there. They have drawn mountains, or they have drawn a biker chick. What I admire in your pictures is not so much that you can handle real life and make things look 'good'. What I admire is that you have a vision, a way of looking at the world that finds it's way into everything you paint. That's what makes me love this picture. It's not a girl with a blade, its a beautiful world. You know it's history, you can feel the veins of it running through the walls, it has a super-atmosphere that makes me KNOW there is more.
Now, I wasen't really paying attention to myself as I typed, so if some of this sounds blocky or awkward, please excuse me. i just hope the idea of it got through.

I think the elongated figure is on purpose. The TALL straight lines form a better composition in my opinion. It tends to be peaceful.
I think the picture tends to say something like she is reaching for the heavens/peace of mind but she cant get to heaven for the blood.
I'm not sure the story behind elektra. This seems to be the strongest piece Ive seen of spooges recent work. |

Mycenae - King Agememnon murdered by his wife Klytemnestra and her lover. Daughter Elektra vows revenge, she and her brother Orest plot to kill their mother, eventually succeed.
Strauss Opera (synopsis) is one interp. of the story.

Back up to the main synopsis section for lots more operas... great stuff for dramatic images. I've done lots of thumbnails based on the operas listed here. Good practice.

Simply put, amazing. As others have already said, your work is not just a painting...it's a feeling. The amount of atmosphere in your work tells an amazing story. I've been sitting here looking at this picture for about 10 minutes-from far away to up close and everything in between. This is probably my favorite picture that you have made, Mr. Spooge.
I just love the expression on her face. It almost looks like a mix of shock, with disgust and exhaustion.
Methinks that you'll one day be remembered as one of the masters, and I'm being dead serious here. Can I have your autograph? *grin*

Ahhh. Finally, what I've always wanted to see from Spooge. See? THIS is what I was talking about: Craig's vision of feminine beauty. HIS interpretation of what's beautiful about women.
Awesome work.
About the long neck: Yeah, it does look a bit odd, but the overall feeling of the piece is really the focus.
Joachim's last correction looks the most accurate anatomically. Good job.
MORE! Go Craig go!

well, I feel rather stupid thouching your work spooge, but I just felt like it to try what milkman did, hope you don't mind....
Milkman, i think the reason why it looks a bit weird is because you just pushed the head down without pushing it back. Maybe making the shoulders a bit less straight helps the neck thing also (?)
I think that looks more natural, do you agree ? ...or maybe not

Thanks one and all for the comments. I am glad to see that there is just straightforward honesty here. Ya like, ya dont like, and why.
I am glad that there are fewer its all scribbly comments. That must mean I am getting better at this kind of thing.
Haha the hands cropped. I have arguments with people whose brains ossified years ago around some rule of composition or picture making. This is exactly the kind of thing they would say, the hands are tangent to the edge and it feels weird! Bad! Learn every rule you can and then try to break them, one at a time.
The elongation of the figure was of course very intentional. Js looks pretty similar, I have trouble telling them apart, but I guess that means mine wasnt that far off .
The head and its relation to the shoulders can be very expressive. I imagine her gesture to be that there is tremendous tension and emotion going on, and her blank expression contrasts with the jutted chin and thrust back shoulders. Tension is often carried unconsciously in the neck and shoulders. If you judge the length of the neck by the shoulder joint, it can be deceiving, because the shoulder is so mobile. The neck is too, and that is why it is so much fun to twist it around. But as I have always said, if it looks wrong to you, it is wrong. I think I pushed it a little too far, Js is better.
Yes, Jezebel, that is what I was after.
The other thing I should have done if I wanted to go with the bird neck is to elongate the head a little bit more. Then it would have been more internally consistent.
I like that idea gecko about the weight of the blood, but no wet t-shirt contests please The strokes of the dress are vertical, that goes with the elongation.
Oh, I see chapel. The part in the hair is not centered? Yes, sloppy. She does have a very pronounced brow, another no-no for women
As far as the detail, that is one reason why I like to post here. How much is to little? Is it to tell a story, give a feeling, show a gesture or explicate anatomy? All three have their place. So I just get an overall feeling from what people say and it all goes to further my experience as to what is appropriate. Some think this is enough, others want more finish.
I am off overseas for 3 weeks starting Monday.
