It looks very good. I haven't seen the original pic, but this one is very solid.
BTW, why everybody says Velasquez when it is Velazquez?

Toast : Thanks...Very much.(merci  toi..Oh mec du terroir)...
About the brushes, you would be very surprised if you've seen how they looks...
But if you want them, tell me how I have to do...?
Ragnarok : of course,....it is V.E.L.A.Z.Q.U.E.Z (with an accent on the A).
Excuse me for him :-)
The original is a bit different, but you know how it is difficult with digital media.
The main goal I had was to "simulate" as much as possible, the natural media
and i have to say that the Spooge (Craig)'technique was very helpful for me.
Normaly, I am a fractal/metacration/Corel/Painter...
For me, if I had to give my opinion, Painter is very impressive to draw, paint, etc, for illustration's work, books, storyboard, etc. A very powerful tool and not so complicated.
Photoshop is very interesting for "painters", I mean like the spooge'way, with block etc. How to "put" oil or gouache on the canvas.
I still try to work with both of them.

Impressive work Weeks!
It sure doesn't look like a photoshop work but you'd rather expect it was done with painter...

Weeks, you ROCK man!
Loved the painting, the proportions are slightly off but the brushwork is just brilliant!
And thanks for the brushes!! Will give them a go. |

Wow, Weeks! Very nice! I especially love your details in the face. Of particular noteworthiness is his mouth area. Very lifelike and very close to the original. His face itself is a big elongated, methinks, but all in all, you have painted a wonder.
I, too, like to try and do painter things with photoshop, just for spite. ;} I have used both programs, and find painter a little more difficult to use (then again, I've been on Photoshop for years). You've managed to do some very Painter things with my favorite program. A pity that I'm on a mac at work, and your zipped brushed will not function here...ah, but there's always home, yes? ;}
I was going to try to say something witty in French, but it's been five years since I've used the language, and I wouldn't want to offend. ;} I feel it was a wise choice. ;}
Keep up the great work! You are now one of the marvels I shall look for in this forum. ;} |

Weeks: Wow! The problem with recently elarged forum is that I end up missing stuff like this!
The first thing that came into my mind was that this was the effect that I tried to convey (probably unsuccessfully) when I did the Rembrandt study (based on Phillip Luscaz) recently.
However, in this pic you've captured, in a sense, the painterly feel that really gives a painting atmosphere. Great stuff!
My main crit is the right cheekbone, it seems to be a bit squashed. One good way to try and avoid these problems is to, every so often, flip the picture horizontally. In a sense, you are seeing the pic for the first time when you do this, and proportional errors are often easier to identify.
Anyway, this is a wonderful study, and it's great to see that the Old Masters are still studied and respected by a modern generation of painters (on a note, there are some other artists - Jason Manley comes to mind - who make frequent mention of the Old Masters).
Look forward to seeing more of your work.

Cuddly : You're absolutly right about the face, and I suppose my glasses or my screen are not flat enough...
Next time it'll be better.. (I hope).
Marekat : Thank you for your advices. I'll do my best next time too.
French is not so difficult. Try and think about the French "demoiselles"... :-)
Ceenda : Thank you one more time.
You know why I like the Internet ?
Because we can understand this planet as if we were in the same village. (my english is so bad).

hmmm...well the face is very well done..however the treatment of the clothing seems second rate. As if you put so much into the face, but forgot to put the same amount of care into the clothing. Yes, it is not as detailed as the face but detail isnt everything. I would say to try and keep the same "feel" paint wise with the clothes as the face. Otherwise nice study.
