I've realised lately that due to 5years+ of making skins my eye has been focused about 2cm from my subject matter for so long that I'm useless now at doing a scene or more artist like pieces.

I'm trying to break out of this and do some painting for the first time without sketches on paper or comic art style.

I'm also teaching myself how to draw animals and buildsing and vehicles etc and just trying to broaden my range.

SO this piece is me trying to do this fast shading and rough painterly style i see done here so much better often.

input appreciated.

r.

The ear looks odd.

Did he just come from a bout with Mike Tyson?

I really like the way the light comes from his eye. It reminds me of Cable...I think his name is...he shared a book with Ghost Rider I think. One of those books that you flip over to read the other story. Cool pic though

Great lightning and colours.
But that ear hurts my eyes.

Still like it though.

thanks for the comments.

ears along with hands are something i really need to practice on. I've been stylising things in a certain way for so long ive become complacent.

but then thats what this whole 'try to paint' thing is about for me atm.

Milkman: Cheers mate, nice to see someone realises what I'm trying to do.

I've been helluva depressed with my work the last few monthes and a combination of this painting / subject matter self improvement course and having learned modelling and trying animation also recently IS really helping me fill in the gaping holes in my abilities.

Stylewise it looks pretty much like the drawings on your site except it's done as a painting this time (which is nice). Forehead might be a bit low.

I'd really like to see some more paintings from you.
